After Discovering Down Syndrome, Jerome Lejeune Was Upset Abortion Targeted Children With Down

2:30 minute Video – http://www.lifenews.com/2016/06/22/after-discovering-down-syndrome-jerome-lejeune-was-upset-aborted-targeted-children-with-it/ It is August 1969 in San Francisco and Professor Jerome Lejeune is addressing the annual meeting of the American Society of Human Genetics. Ten years earlier he had discovered the genetic cause of Down Syndrome, when he saw under his microscope in a Paris laboratory the third little mark on the 21st chromosome. In 1962 he received the Kennedy Award from the hands of President John F Kennedy for his work with handicapped children. But the drama of his life was that his discovery of trisomy 21 would lead to a medical holocaust, national health systems giving huge funds to track down and eliminate these children before they could be born. Invited to America to receive the highest distinction in genetics for his work, the William Allen Memorial Award, Lejeune decided to use this occasion to speak out in defence of “his patients” — the children and their parents who already came from all over the world to seek his advice and help in Paris. Colleagues tried to persuade him just to address the scientific questions. But Lejeune had given months of reflection to his speech. He had counted the cost. In his soft, very precise voice he said : “For thousands of years, medicine has striven to fight for life and health against disease and death. Any reversal of this order would entirely change medicine itself.” That night he wrote to his wife, “Today I lost my Nobel Prize.” As he had foreseen, Lejeune was ostracised by the scientific, medical and political elite in France. His research funds were withdrawn. In the 1960s...

Grandmas for Abortion: Group of Grannies Encourages Women to Abort Their Babies

In an often cited 2012 interview, the former president of the radical pro-abortion group NARAL lamented that the pro-life movement was attracting so many young people, while the pro-abortion movement was growing old and gray. A new pro-abortion group in Maine is recruiting the old, graying crowd that former NARAL president Nancy Keenan was worried about. It’s called Grandmothers for Reproductive Rights (GRR!). The Bangor Daily News recently profiled the leader of the pro-abortion grannies group, Julia Kahrl. She grew up in a privileged, pro-abortion household. Her grandfather, James Gamble, was the co-founder of Procter & Gamble, and her father, Clarence Gamble, was a doctor who worked with Margaret Sanger, the founder of Planned Parenthood, according to the report. (A side note, it was in a letter to Kahrl’s father that Sanger exposed her racist intentions with the infamous line, “We don’t want the word to get out that we want to exterminate the Negro population …”) Clarence later began an international organization called Pathfinder Fund to push abortions and birth control as population control measures in developing countries. Most of Pathfinder’s funding comes from federal taxpayer dollars, the report states. It was through her work with Pathfinder that Kahrl decided to begin the pro-abortion grannies group. She told the newspaper that while visiting Mozambique in 2013, she learned about a group of grandmothers who were working to educate their communities about birth control. “And the light came on,” Kahrl said. Back in Maine, she began Grandmothers for Reproductive Rights, which has about 30 active members, according to the report. The grannies group lobbies against state measures requiring parental...

Black Abortionist Thinks the Real Reason Pro-Lifers Oppose What He Does is They’re Racist

[Comment: About 60% of all abortions done in Alabama are of Black babies. Parker primarily does abortions at abortion businesses with high numbers of Black clientele. Since pro-life volunteers are trying to prevent all women from aborting their babies, and offering them support and help, perhaps Parker should consider that he might actually be the one conducting Reproductive Racism. Black women may be ‘disproportionate’ in the U.S. population; but, if that third of all abortions every year are of Black babies, then literally MILLIONS of Black children have been aborted since 1973 when abortion was legalized. Perhaps the Black population would not be so ‘disproportionate’ if the Black community had not been so short-sighted. Furthermore, anyone calling out angry comments toward abortionists or clients is NOT pro-life and should be asked to never return.] Southern abortionist Willie James Parker has become a media darling on pro-abortion news sites in the past few years [, as he seeks national and international recognition]. He frequently talks about how his faith led him to become an abortionist and once even called his abortion practice a “ministry.” In his latest interview with Huffington Post writer Laura Bassett, Parker talked about racism and abortion. A Black abortionist who works in Mississippi and Alabama, Parker said people in the South often assume that white men are the doctors and that he is going into the abortion business to accompany a pregnant wife or girlfriend. Bassett wrote: The regular protesters at the clinics [sic] where he works hurl racial epithets at him, like “filthy Negro abortionist,” or accuse him of being a “race traitor” for performing...

On Matters of Life and Death, Where Are We Now?

Taking Stock: Where Are We Now? Taking stock of where one is at the beginning of a new project or a new year is a good idea. Where we are in the entire realm of bioethics is beyond the scope of a mere e-newsletter, but what follows are some landmarks discernible in January 2016 . . . On Matters of Life and Death Physician-Assisted Suicide On Sunday, 24 January, John Jay Hooker, Tennessee lawyer, politician, and activist, died. Mr. Hooker had most recently championed “death with dignity” –physician-assisted suicide — in a proposed bill and in the courts. By the time of his death, neither the legislature nor the courts had provided him the decision he had recently pursued. The “Death with Dignity” bill was sponsored in the Tennessee legislature by Rep. Craig Fitzhugh, D-Ripley. Quoted in The Tennessean, Mr. Fitzhugh honored his friend, Mr. Hooker, with these words: “I found his love for our great state to be enormous, and unceasing. Until his last breath, he was committed to helping others, fighting for what he believed to be right, and being a voice for the voiceless.” There seems no lack of dignity in Mr. Hooker’s death. Focus on IPPF – International Planned Parenthood Federation

International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF), the world’s largest purveyor and performer of abortion, works in 170 countries with Member Associations in 147 countries which operate in 159 countries with activities in an additional 11 countries. Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA) is one Member Association. Its mission includes, “Advocating for the right to safe abortion services and providing them to the fullest extent permitted by law.” IPPF is well-funded and well-connected; a partner with the United Nations Population Control Fund (UNFPA) in efforts to gain parliamentarians’ support for ‘sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR)’. Its active engagement at the United Nations includes funding country delegations to UN meetings where delegates recite IPPF talking points on issues that include access to abortion during negotiations. The following is a sample of recent IPPF actions. [from 2015: 47 New Pro-Life Laws Enacted in US; PNCI Global News_Dec 22, 2015] IPPF Guide to the New Global Goals The new goals contained in the 2030 Agenda go into effect next month while the indicators to measure progress on the goals are still being developed. Peruvian Victims Still Wait For Justice

Amidst Pro-Life Victory, Victims of Peru’s Sterilization Campaign Still Being Used—This Time for the Political Gain of Pro-Abortion Advocates Twenty-five years after hundreds of thousands of women were forcibly or coercively sterilized in Peru, these victims are still waiting for justice. A recent decree issued by the Peruvian Justice Ministry may help these women receive reparation for the crimes committed against them. The politics of abortion is complicating this process, however. Many pro-aborts in Peru who once supported the sterilization campaign are now perversely attempting the use the issue to leverage support for legalizing abortion. Their political leaders have turned the issue against pro-life advocates in an attempt to silence the very voices that have always opposed sterilization—but remain aligned politically with the party once responsible for carrying out the campaign. The good news is that these efforts have failed, at least for the moment. Last Tuesday pro-life congressmen carried the day as the Peruvian Congress upheld the right to life for victims of rape. … Last Tuesday’s vote was the second time that the Congress of Peru had rejected a bill aimed at decriminalizing abortion in cases of rape. … Pro-abortion Peru First-Lady Nadine Heredia had expressed support for the failed measure that would have legalized abortion in cases of rape. Referring to pro-life members of the Popular Force Party—headed by Keiko Fujimori, the daughter of ex-President Alberto Fujimori—Heredia tweeted “those who want to sell themselves as defenders of life forget that for ten years they defended forced sterilization.” Pro-life Congresswoman Martha Chavez, a member of the Popular Force Party, condemned the sterilization campaigns long before the current...

Gates Foundation Suspected of Forcing Controversial Contraceptive on Africans

HIV/AIDS and women’s health advocates are criticizing a recent report released by the World Health Organization (WHO) on the safety of a controversial contraceptive favored by the Gates Foundation. Depo-Provera is a long-acting contraceptive distributed to poor women in the U.S. and through foreign aid programs. “Population control, unfortunately, is back in vogue,” writes Betsy Hartmann, a longtime reproductive rights proponent reacting to the WHO’s policy reversal on Depo-Provera, also known as DMPA. WHO’s revised guidelines released October 21 now mirror those issued by Pfizer Pharmaceutical, Depo-Provera’s manufacturer. It states there is “no evidence of a causal association between DMPA use and an increase in women’s risk of HIV acquisition.” This reversal, says Hartmann, despite 25 years of scientific studies citing an increased risk of HIV transmission among women using it, raises questions about whether WHO abandoned caution due to “outside ‘encouragement’” by special interest groups. Some 40 sexual and reproductive health groups and advocates have asked WHO’s Director General, Dr. Margaret Chan to sideline the new guidelines and remove it from WHO’s website until it can undergo “a rigorous consultative process” at a key meeting scheduled in December. The criticism comes as WHO faces accusations of being unduly influenced by its biggest contributors. Some 70% of donations to WHO are restricted for specific programs. “WHO’s priorities have been “distorted” and “perverted” by these voluntary contributions, said Dr. Linsey McGoey, who studies global philanthropy. The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation established a $40 billion endowment for WHO. The $3 billion disbursed annually to WHO makes up 10% of its annual budget. Currently there are no major high-level policy decisions...

10 Reasons Women Should Be Pro-Life

In today’s society, if you’re female, you’re expected to be in favor of abortion. You’re practically an outcast if you confess your pro-life views, and to be pro-life, you often have to deal with people calling you anti-feminist. But this is one of the biggest lies that exists. Anyone who cares about women, who believes in women, or who is a woman, should without a doubt be against abortion. Here’s why… Abortion is an insult to all women. Telling a woman she needs to have an abortion is belittling. Anyone who says a woman is too young or that she can’t handle going to school and having a child, or working and having a child is telling her that she isn’t good enough, smart enough, or strong enough. “How is it ‘feminism’ to tell us that we are too irresponsible or lazy or ill-equipped to raise our children,” asks Kristen Hatten, Vice President of New Wave Feminists. “That we either need to abort or get the government to pay our way through life? That is the opposite of feminism. That is the opposite of empowerment.” 2. Pregnancy is empowering, abortion is not. Carrying your baby and giving birth while you’re going to school or working at your job or furthering your career is a feminist move. It’s also empowering to succeed when people are telling you that you can’t. You can love and care for your baby while you pursue other goals. Your children don’t have to suffer or die in order for you to succeed in other areas of your life. 3. Women are not sexual objects. This...

UN Adopts 2030 Agenda; Push for Abortion Begins / UN “Experts” Visit US; Denounce Laws Against Abortion

UN Adopts 2030 Agenda; Push for Abortion Begins Thursday, October 29, 2015 The world has adopted an ambitious plan to change the world in “Transforming Our World: The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development”. The 17 new Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), also known as the Global Goals, and 169 targets with indicators still to be determined, are meant for all countries and for all people and purport to “leave no one behind” as it addresses social, economic, and environment aspects of development with interconnected actions to “end extreme poverty”, “fight inequality & injustice”, and “fix climate change”. The push has begun to use the 2030 Agenda to increase global access to abortion as a component of “sexual and reproductive health and rights” as stated in target 3.7— “ensure universal access to sexual and reproductive health-care services”— and 5.6— “ensure universal access to sexual and reproductive health and reproductive rights”. If successful, the lives of unborn children will be valued on subjective views of utility and wantedness as the world experiences an unprecedented fifteen year push for access to abortion. Pro abortion activists are using the official 2030 Agenda process to advance their agenda and seek inclusion of indicators related to access to abortion that will measure progress on related targets; the determination of indicators is currently underway with final indicators being adopted in March 2016. For example, pro-abortion Guttmacher Institute states, “Induced abortion is a key sexual and reproductive health service” in its new report, Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights Indicators for the SDGs Recommendations for inclusion in the Sustainable Development Goals. Its recommendations include tracking the “Proportion of...

#PPSellsBabyParts, Statutory Rape Cover-up, Billing Fraud, Aiding Sex Trafficking, Scheduling Sex Selection Abortions, Reproductive Racism… So, WHY Exactly Does our Government Pay PP One-Half BILLION of Our Tax Dollars $$ Every Year?

If Planned Parenthood (PP) is not funded by the federal government, access to healthcare for women and children will not suffer. Planned Parenthood claims they care about women; but they don’t – just look at their actions. They get over $500 million a year in our taxpayer money and make more than $120 million in profit, all while having abortion quotas — http://dailycaller.com/2014/07/22/planned-parenthood-has-abortion-quotas-says-former-clinic-director/ The PP organization has been caught covering up statutory rape — http://liveaction.org/monalisa/ double-billing taxpayers — http://dailysignal.com/2014/07/29/report-planned-parenthood-boosting-profit-overbilling-customers/ aiding and abetting sex traffickers — http://liveaction.org/traffick/ scheduling sex-selective abortions — http://liveaction.org/gendercide/ and accepting money to abort African American children — http://liveaction.org/the-planned-parenthood-racism-project/ Quite frankly, we’ve had enough. It’s time to relieve Planned Parenthood of our taxpayer dollars. The Heritage Foundation and ADF made a map comparing the number of PP sites nationwide (665) to community health centers (13,000). Now they have made available maps for each state showing the location of each PP business and the community health centers. See them here — https://alliancedefendingfreedom2.app.box.com/s/qch7wzfiidvjcsz02fxscozyi2z81qs8 Finally, Dr. Marguerite Duane, a popular MedSFL speaker explained this very well in a recent article, For Women’s Health Care, Here’s the Better Alternative to Planned Parenthood published by NationalReview.com on Aug. 26, 2015 — http://www.nationalreview.com/article/423096/defund-planned-parenthood-fund-community-health-centers    (see below) RELATED: State Maps showing location of community health centers & PP sites — https://alliancedefendingfreedom2.app.box.com/s/qch7wzfiidvjcsz02fxscozyi2z81qs8 [18 Sept 2015, [email protected]]   For Women’s Health Care, Here’s the Better Alternative than Planned Parenthood With the release of yet another shocking Planned Parenthood video, defenders of the organization continue to argue that defunding Planned Parenthood would, as Hillary Clinton put it, “deny women . . . the health care they need...

Black Lives Matter? Then Let’s Talk About the Racial Disparity in Abortion Numbers

Why isn’t it more a matter of concern to the Left that so many black babies aren’t brought into the world? “… abortion’s prevalence and the racial disparity ‘suggest that it is a major influence on the demographic, socioeconomic and cultural composition of the United States population’.” America’s abortion wars may subside periodically, but neither side has surrendered and the latest flare-up could lead to a second government shutdown in as many years. After videos surfaced that show Planned Parenthood officials discussing the sale of parts from aborted babies, some conservatives in Congress vowed to block any spending measure that includes more money for the organization. … Most Republicans, however, realize that a government shutdown over abortion would be no more successful than the one in October 2013 over the Affordable Care Act. The GOP majority in the Senate today is too narrow to overcome an inevitable veto from President Obama, and a sympathetic Washington press corps will be eager to ensure that the left’s shutdown narrative prevails. In all likelihood, it will take a Republican in the White House to reverse ObamaCare and a pro-life president to end taxpayer-funded abortions. Shutting down the government when Republicans control the House and the Senate would only allow Democrats to argue more credibly that the opposition cannot be counted on to reduce legislative gridlock and govern responsibly. Further, Hillary Clinton, on her quest to make history for the sisterhood, is all too happy to shift the media discussion from her classified emails, her flagging poll numbers and the Bernie Sanders surge to what will be portrayed as Republican attacks on reproductive...

Planned Parenthood and Baby Parts: How Did We Get Here? The Racial Eugenic Past of Planned Parenthood, Part 2

In the first installment of my two-part blog series, I discussed Margaret Sanger’s radical past, specifically how she embraced eugenics to cleanse the world of “inferior” races. In this continuing piece, I connect Sanger’s turn-of-the-century tactics to rid the world of “human weeds” with Planned Parenthood’s rabid allegiance to abortion on demand. The gruesome Planned Parenthood videos have not only exposed the abortion giant for harvesting preborn baby parts, but they’ve also shined a light on the organization’s dark history. Founded in 1916 by Margaret Sanger and two other women, Planned Parenthood continues to carry out Sanger’s depraved philosophy by targeting impoverished minority communities to this day. Sanger coined the term “birth control” and went on to start an organization known as the American Birth Control League in 1923. This organization was eventually renamed Planned Parenthood. Indeed, Planned Parenthood was started by a social radical who was a tireless champion of eugenics. She wanted to rid society of “human weeds,” and in 1925 she wrote, “We must clear the way for a better world; we must cultivate our garden.” In my book, Abortion: The Ultimate Exploitation of Women, I provide extensive background on Sanger’s belief that the human race needs “improving” through strategic breeding. Here’s a brief excerpt from my book: “The most urgent problem,” according to Sanger, “is how to limit and discourage the over-fertility of the mentally and physically defective.” And coercion, she made clear, was a tool to be considered: “Possibly drastic and Spartan methods may be forced upon American society if it continues complacently to encourage the chance and chaotic breeding that has resulted from...

Planned Parenthood and Baby Parts: How Did We Get Here?

There is an old business maxim that says, “Every organization embodies the characteristics of its leader.” This is true for any organized group, whether it’s a family, church, nonprofit, business, or nation. To some degree, we who follow cannot help but take on some of the characteristics of those who lead us. Thus, we can learn a lot about an organization by studying its founders and history. Take Margaret Sanger, for example, the founder of Planned Parenthood. Sanger was a racist, sexually liberal, rabid eugenicist. Yet she is frequently lauded, defended, and praised. I believe that sometimes the people who run to her defense are also running from the facts. “People who run to Margaret Sanger’s defense are also running from the facts.” I recently read this NPR article about Margaret Sanger, which vainly attempts to sanitize her history and comments . The author, Amita Kelly, leaves out some crucial details that actually shed some light on Planned Parenthood’s sale of body parts today. Let’s talk about those Planned Parenthood videos for a minute. No doubt you’ve heard about and perhaps even watched some of the recent undercover videos that exposed Planned Parenthood for harvesting and selling fetal body parts for profit. I’ve dedicated my last four blog posts to discussing this horrific demonstration of fetal trafficking, and I’ve received many thoughtful comments from OFL supporters like you, which I deeply appreciate. Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of happiness One particular question that has been repeatedly asked in our comments section is “How did we get here?” In other words, how did America—a nation committed to “life, liberty and...

8 ‘Other’ Shocking Videos Exposing Planned Parenthood We All Need to See

Planned Parenthood is under fire after an undercover video by the Center for Medical Progress revealed that the abortion giant is profiting off the sale of aborted baby parts. The undercover video shocked the public, igniting outcry from individuals on both sides of the abortion debate. The abortion giant’s barbarism, cover-up, and profiteering is, however, nothing new. Planned Parenthood holds a long history of lawbreaking, manipulation, and cover-up. As America’s largest abortion chain, its crimes against humanity and profiteering is business as usual. Below are eight must-see investigative videos, documenting the horror that is Planned Parenthood. Although Planned Parenthood claims that women need its health care services, it has steadily increased its abortion numbers while whittling down other health programs. 1) Aiding child sex-traffickers Planned Parenthood was exposed for aiding and abetting child sex-traffickers [liveaction.org/traffick/], covering up the trafficking of minor girls while helping pimps obtain secret abortions. State law requires that Planned Parenthood staff report cases of suspected child sexual which they failed to do repeatedly. In one clinic, undercover tapes reveal how a Planned Parenthood manager helped a pimp and prostitute cover up their illegal child sex-trafficking ring, encouraging them to skirt the law by lying about the age of the girls involved. In the aftermath of Live Action’s investigation, the abortion giant fired the Planned Parenthood manager at the center of the controversy, but has denied involvement in this illegal activity. See # 1 — http://liveactionnews.org/8-undercover-videos-exposing-planned-parenthood-you-need-to-see/ 2) Supporting infanticide What happens when a baby is born alive as a result of a botched abortion? According to Planned Parenthood, the outcome of that child’s life should be...

The Selma Project 2015: If Black Lives Matter, Black Women Matter

Tear gas and violence greeted the marchers on Bloody Sunday in 1965, as they crossed the Edmund Pettus Bridge. It wasn’t until I saw the empty pavement where those troops of police once lined up that I understood the shift of racism in our country. Fifty years later, the wicked spirit of racism dwells in abortion mills across the country in its same potent form. In Selma, Alabama, racism thrives in Central Alabama Women’s Clinic of unlicensed abortionist Dr. Samuel Lett. The target: black women. Catherine Davis of the National Black Pro-life Coalition, Dr. Alveda King, Star Parker, other pro-life leaders and activists traveled to Alabama this past weekend for The Selma Project. Together, about 150 people of different races and denominations united to stand against the evil of racism and its hiding place in abortion. The two-day event began Friday night with fervent prayer and an appeal to God to hold state agencies accountable for allowing the business to stay open, to shut down Lett’s illegal abortion operation, and for an end of abortion. Racism sits as the foundation of the abortion industry. Dr. Charmaine Yoest of Americans United for Life spoke at the rally about The Negro Project of Planned Parenthood founder Margaret Sanger, which is as prevalent today as it was in 1939. “The abortion industry is rooted in racism – its history is cloaked with the foul odor of eugenic racism – and it continues so today,” Yoest said. “Today black women account for 37% of all abortions, bearing the brunt of an unregulated and unscrupulous industry.” The unity of 150 pro-lifers of different races...

Study Shows Premature Babies Can Survive at Earlier Ages, But Will Hospitals Let Them Die? (2015)

A study published last week in the New England Journal of Medicine demonstrates widespread discriminatory denial of life-preserving medical treatment to premature infants based on fear that if assisted to live they might have disabilities – in defiance of protective federal law. It provided a startling snapshot into the treatment of very premature infants. The study looked at the survival and outcomes of almost 5,000 babies born before 27 weeks gestation at 24 hospitals from 2006 -2011. It found that 23% of infants are surviving at an astonishing 22 weeks gestation (20 weeks after fertilization) with treatment, but that many hospitals deliberately deny them life-saving medical treatment. In fact, the hospital attitude made the most significant difference in the probability of survival of these very premature babies. Writing about this first major look into hospital practices regarding premature babies, Marilynn Marchione, AP’s Chief Medical Writer, explains, “There was a wide range — some hospitals always gave active treatment to the youngest preemies as opposed to just comfort care, but others never did.” According to the AP article, “Parents need to know that ‘the hospital that you go to might determine what happens to your baby’, although many parents are not in a position to shop around when they find themselves in these emergency situations,” said one study leader, Dr. Edward Bell of the University of Iowa. “In the NEJM study, five hospitals always actively treated babies at 22 weeks, but four other hospitals never did. When a baby was actively treated at 22 weeks, he or she was 18% more likely to survive than if only comfort care had...

Doctors Told Mom Her Baby Had a Zero Percent Chance of Survival, She’s Born Healthy (2015)

If we had a dollar for every time LifeNews has reported about stories where doctors tell parents of an unborn baby that their child had no chance or a little chance or surviving and where that baby was born healthy, we’d be rich. Today, another amazing story of defying the odds is making the rounds of social media. In this article at Scary Mommy blog, Meriah Nichols talks about her little girl Moxie who is now 5-years-old. But doctors told Meriah that her little girl had absolutely no chance of surviving. Six years ago I went to the hospital for an ultrasound. I had recently suffered a second trimester miscarriage and needed to know that the Rainbow Baby that I was carrying was alive. She was. But with fluid separating her skin from her body – a condition called “diffuse fetal hydrops” – and with heart holes, the doctor told me that she had a zero percent chance of survival. Let’s hold that a moment: zero percent. He said she had a zero percent chance. He said that I should have an amniocentesis, not for her as she had no chance of surviving, but to know what was going on so that we would be prepared for a similar situation should it happen with a future pregnancy. When given that sort of information, some parents opt for an abortion — and Meriah certainly considered it. But she ultimately refused and is glad she did. Tell me how many other babies are aborted based on a doctor saying “zero percent.” Everything that I want to say about her sounds wrongly...

“Greatest Canadian” 2004 and Father of Medicare was a Eugenicist (2006)

Recently, Canadians voted in a nationwide contest for who they thought was the “Greatest Canadian” of all time. They chose socialist icon, Tommy Douglas, the “father of medicare,” and founder of the extreme left party, the New Democrats. The 2004 “Greatest Canadian”, however, held views on the poor and disabled that his zealous fans on the left would like to keep quiet. In the July 3 edition of the Western Standard, John Robson quotes Douglas’ 1933 master’s thesis, where he argued that “The subnormal family presents the most appalling of all family problems.” “Because this class tend[s] to intermarry…the second and third generations are nearly always worse than the first. The result is an ever increasing number of morons and imbeciles who continue to be a charge upon society.” In his thesis, titled The Problems of the Subnormal Family, Douglas went on, “This does not include the generally low tone of morality among these people, which cannot be shown by statistics, but which is very low.” Robson says that Douglas, as a man of the rapidly advancing left in the early 20th century, joined his like-minded peers in the US and Europe early on, before his political career, in adhering to the eugenics philosophy. And, as Robson says, he was a proponent “in the most merciless terms.” Douglas advocated sterilization for the morally, physically and mentally “unfit,” using terms such as “defective” and “moron,” to describe those who, he said, should not be allowed into the mainstream of Canadian society. The “subnormal,” he said, should merely be educated in effective methods of contraception once a predetermined family size had...

Peter Singer Defends His Views on Killing Disabled Babies by Infanticide (2006)

Princeton University philosophy professor Peter Singer came under international condemnation when he announced he favors killing disabled babies via infanticide. Though he was blasted from both sides of the political spectrum, the so-called ethicist still holds to the position. In an interview with The Independent newspaper in England, Singer said he would definitely kill a disabled newborn baby. He indicated he would do so “if that was in the best interests of the baby and of the family as a whole.” Singer said he found it surprising that abortion advocates would disagree with his views. “Many people find this shocking, yet they support a woman’s right to have an abortion,” Singer said. Meanwhile, he claimed he had one point of common beliefs with pro-life advocates. “One point on which I agree with opponents of abortion is that, from the point of view of ethics rather than the law, there is no sharp distinction between the fetus and the newborn baby,” Singer explained. However, Singer’s view is that, instead of legal protection, both disabled babies and the unborn are of no...
