GLOBAL WARNING. One of the world's leading agencies monitoring climate change says there's no link between global warming and the frequency or severity of hurricanes hitting the United States over the past century. 28Feb08 http://www.torontosun.com/News/Columnists/Goldstein_Lorrie/2008/02/28/4881773-sun.php See April 28, 2008 "Storm Brewing for Hurricane Forecaster Over Global Warming Debate" article below…     The UN Climate Change Numbers Hoax: IPCC must come clean on real numbers of scientist supporters. It’s an assertion repeated by politicians and climate campaigners the world over – ‘2,500 scientists of the United Nation’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) agree that humans are causing a climate crisis’.   But it’s not true. And, for the first time ever, the public can now see the extent to which they have been misled. As lies go, it’s a whopper. Here’s the real situation.   Like the three IPCC ‘assessment reports’ before it, the Fourth Assessment Report (AR4) released during 2007 (upon which the UN climate conference in Bali was based) includes the reports of the IPCC’s three working groups. Working Group I (WG I) is assigned to report on the extent and possible causes of past climate change as well as future ‘projections’. Its report is titled “The Physical Science Basis”.  The reports from working groups II and II are titled “Impacts, Adaptation and Vulnerability” and “Mitigation of Climate Change” respectively, and since these are based on the results of WG I, it is crucially important that the WG I report stands up to close scrutiny.   There is, of course serious debate among scientists about the actual technical content of the roughly 1,000-page WG I report,...

Lake Study Confirms Estrogen in Water is Devastating to Fish Populations (2007)

STUDY CONFIRMS ESTROGEN FROM THE PILL IN WATER IS DEVASTATING TO FISH POPULATIONS A study by Dr. Karen Kidd [University of New Brunswick and the Canadian Rivers Institute] found that estrogen from birth control pills flooding into the water system through sewage adversely affects fish populations. The researchers added estrogen to an experimental lake at a level commonly found in the treated wastewater from cities with about 200,000 people. The researchers discovered that one consequence is that exposed male fish become feminized, producing a protein normally found in females. Chronic exposure to estrogen led to the near extinction of the lake's fathead minnow population, as well as significant declines in larger fish, such as pearl dace and lake trout. Kidd: "We've known for some time that estrogen can adversely affect the reproductive health of fish, but ours was the first study to show the long-term impact on the sustainability of wild fish populations…What we demonstrated is that estrogen can wipe out entire populations of small fish – a key food source for larger fish whose survival could in turn be threatened over the longer term. "Kidd also noted that once the estrogen levels in the water were lowered, fish populations rebounded after three years. "Once you take the stressor out the system, we now have ample evidence that suggests affected fish populations will recover," she said. Kidd is preparing a report for the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) titled, "From Kitchen Sinks to Ocean Basins: Emerging Chemical Contaminants and Human Health".   In the 1980's and 90's, municipalities in Canada and elsewhere began stenciling pictures of...

Environment and Contraception (Global Pro-Life Alliance, Feb08)

15Feb08 PRESS RELEASE On 14th February, 2008, the African Anti-Abortion Coalition (AAAC) and other Pro-Life Organizations… held a successful annual Forty Million People Life March Against Abortion in all Africa countries with the theme 'Blessed is the Fruit of Your Womb’. The scientific and technical committees of the AAAC council had determined that the focus in 2008 for the Global Pro-Life Alliance (GPA) would be on “Environment and Contraception”. We wish to highlight the emerging threat to human and aquatic life from high use of estrogen compounds in contraceptive pills in Africa. The main issues raised were: 1. There is an emerging threat to Global Health by the high use of hormonal estrogen compounds in contraceptive pills. The latter problem is most acute in African countries, where wastewater treatment is poor or absent. 2. Experts at the United States Geological Survey (USGS) Toxic Substances Hydrology Program have established that endocrine-disrupting compounds such as estrogen from contraceptive pills damage the reproductive systems of aquatic life. The researchers discovered an alarming finding of skewed gender ratio and abnormal female fish, downstream of treatment plants and pollution-control equipment. The researchers also discovered many strange, inter-sex fish, which had both male and female reproductive tissue. Similar findings have been made by ecotoxicologists in Canada, United Kingdom, and other European Union countries. 3. The synthetic estrogen hormones in the wastewater influent and effluent were: estrone, estriol, equilin, estradiol, 17 alpha-ethinyl estradiol, which are compounds used in contraceptive pills. The concentration of estrogens in the influent and effluent of the treatment plants ranged from 0.5 to 259 ng/L, which are several million times more than...

Global Warming or Cooling? Part III

The Year the Global Warming Hoax Died When did the global warming hoax die? Historians are likely to pinpoint 2007. It will take another decade to insure it cannot be revived, but the avalanche of scientific studies and the cumulative impact of scientists who have publicly joined those who debunked the lies on which it has been based will be noted as the tipping point. It took some forty years to unmask the Piltdown Man hoax that began in 1912 alleging that the skull of an ancient ancestor of man had been found in England. Any number of British anthropologists unwittingly contributed to the hoax by confirming the authenticity of the skull until it was found that the jaw of an orangutan had been cunningly attached. The unmasking of “global warming” has taken less than half that time. The hoax has mainly been a creation of the United Nations Environmental Program and took off in earnest with the 1992 Earth Summit. It culminated in 1997 with the Kyoto Climate Control Protocol, an agreement to reduce the generation of carbon dioxide, a “greenhouse” gas (CO2) said to be the cause of an accelerated warming of the earth. By 2005, 140 nations had ratified the pact, agreeing to reduce CO2 emissions. Notably exempt from the pact were nations such as China and India. Few, if any, nations have ever met the limits that require reductions in CO2 production, attributed to the use of so-called “fossil fuels” such as oil, natural gas, and coal. The United States refused to ratify the Kyoto Protocol and, at one point, the U.S. Senate unanimously passed...

The following is adapted from a lecture delivered on the Hillsdale College campus on June 30, 2007, during a seminar entitled “Economics and the Environment,” sponsored by the Charles R. and Kathleen K. Hoogland Center for Teacher Excellence. [http://www.hillsdale.edu/news/imprimis.asp] Global Warming: Man-Made or Natural? IN THE PAST few years there has been increasing concern about global climate change on the part of the media, politicians, and the public. It has been stimulated by the idea that human activities may influence global climate adversely and that therefore corrective action is required on the part of governments. Recent evidence suggests that this concern is misplaced. Human activities are not influencing the global climate in a perceptible way. Climate will continue to change, as it always has in the past, warming and cooling on different time scales and for different reasons, regardless of human action. I would...

Film Investigates the Crushing of Dissent Regarding Darwinian Orthodoxy

“If you have questioned Darwinism, that’s it, your career is over.” “I was viewed as an intellectual terrorist.” “I have been told to shut up.” The quotes come from interviews with research scientists featured in a film, “Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed,” starring the New York writer and intellectual Ben Stein. The film, set for release in February 2008, documents the crushing of any investigation or questioning of materialist Darwinism that is the orthodox position of most of the scientific establishment. In the trailer for “Expelled”, Stein is seen addressing an audience saying, “There are people out there who want to keep science in a little box, where it can’t possibly touch God‚ĶScientists are not allowed to even think thoughts that involve an intelligent creator.” A PR Newswire release says that Stein, a lawyer, economist, former presidential speechwriter, author and social commentator, was “stunned” when he investigated the debate surrounding Intelligent Design theory and Darwinism. Stein uncovers what he says is an elitist scientific establishment that actively suppresses any research that may lead to questioning of the “accepted” Darwinian theory. The film features interviews with scientists and thinkers including biologists, astronomers, chemists and philosophers who have had their ideas suppressed for questioning adherence to the materialist theory. “Big Science in this area of biology has lost its way,” says Stein. “Scientists are supposed to be allowed to follow the evidence wherever it may lead, no matter what the implications are. Freedom of inquiry has been greatly compromised, and this is not only anti-American, it’s anti-science. Its anti-the whole concept of learning.” Stein writes that the Darwinian orthodoxy in science is...

Exposure to a Common Chemical may be Harmful (8/07)

Americans are exposed to far more of a controversial chemical than previously thought — levels that likely surpass the government's current safety standard and which have been shown to cause harm in animals, according to a joint statement issued 2 August 2007 by 38 leading scientists. While the chemical, bisphenol A, is hardly a household word, it is found in nearly every home — and nearly everybody. Government tests have found bisphenol A — used in plastic baby bottles, dental sealants and linings of metal cans — in 95% of people studied. Bisphenol A (BPA) is an intermediate used in the manufacture of epoxy, polycarbonate, and polyester-styrene resins; flame retardants, and rubber chemicals, and fungicides. While scientists haven't yet conducted definitive studies in people, animal tests have linked bisphenol A — which acts like a hormone — to problems such as obesity, early puberty, hyperactivity, and abnormal sexual behavior and reproductive cycles. In their joint statement, however, scientists say they took a conservative approach, including only statements backed by many strong studies. Scientists agreed that even very low doses cause profound effects on laboratory animals, particularly during pregnancy and infancy. The chemical can permanently rewire genetic programming before birth, potentially predisposing exposed animals to cancer. Bisphenol A also changes brain structure, body size and behavior in animals studied, scientists said. Researchers issued their statement, published in Reproductive Toxicology, after reviewing about 700 animal studies. The Environmental Protection Agency says bisphenol A is safe in doses of up to 50 micrograms per kilogram of body weight, per day. But a paper presented 2Aug concludes that the high levels of bisphenol A in human...

Climate stability has never been a feature of planet Earth. The only constant about climate is change; it changes continually and, at times, quite rapidly. Many times in the past, temperatures were far higher than today, and occasionally, temperatures were colder. As recently as 6,000 years ago,...

The Poisoning of America: China's Food and Drugs are Unsafe at any Price (6/07)

The news that Chinese toothpaste brands sold in Panama, the Dominican Republic, and Australia contained diethylene glycol, a highly toxic chemical used in engine coolants, came as a shock to U.S. health officials.  It shouldn't have. China, as anyone who has lived there knows, has virtually no safety controls on food and drugs.  At the same time, it is in the midst of a no-holds-barred drive to increase its exports, and is heavily subsidizing its manufacturers to ship container loads of cheap goods of all kinds to the U.S. and other overseas markets.  As a result, over the past few years, China has stealthily become the second-largest supplier of foreign toothpaste–and many other questionable food and drug products–to the U.S. market. U.S. health officials responded by pledging to check all shipments of toothpaste coming from China.  We have even offered to send inspectors to China.  (An offer that China quickly rejected.)  But why should the Food and Drug Administration–and ultimately the U.S. taxpayer–have to bear the entire burden of testing suspect Chinese-made food and drugs at all?    Antifreeze — an important ingredient in Chinese-made toothpastes.   As a practical matter, the FDA is no more capable of inspecting the flood of Chinese imports than the Border Patrol is capable of containing the flood of illegal immigrants.  Take food imports, for example.  Right now, 25,000 shipments arrive on our shores from China and other countries every single day.  David Acheson, recently named to the new job of FDA commissioner for food protection, told the Baltimore Sun:  "Right now, we inspect 1 percent of food imports.  If we were to...

‘Global Warming’ Debunked

‘Climate change’ will be considered a joke in five years time, meteorologist Augie Auer told the annual meeting of Mid Canterbury Federated Farmers in Ashburton this week. Man’s contribution to the greenhouse gases was so small we couldn’t change the climate if we tried, he maintained. “We’re all going to survive this. It’s all going to be a joke in five years,” he said. A combination of misinterpreted and misguided science, media hype, and political spin had created the current hysteria and it was time to put a stop to it. “It is time to attack the myth of global warming,” he said. Water vapour was responsible for 95 per cent of the greenhouse effect, an effect which was vital to keep the world warm, he explained. “If we didn’t have the greenhouse effect the planet would be at minus 18 deg C but because we do have the greenhouse effect it is plus 15 deg C, all the time.” The other greenhouse gases: carbon dioxide, methane, nitrogen dioxide, and various others including CFCs, contributed only five per cent of the effect, carbon dioxide being by far the greatest contributor at 3.6 per cent. However, carbon dioxide as a result of man’s activities was only 3.2 per cent of that, hence only 0.12 per cent of the greenhouse gases in total. Human-related methane, nitrogen dioxide and CFCs etc made similarly minuscule contributions to the effect: 0.066, 0.047 and 0.046 per cent respectively. “That ought to be the end of the argument, there and then,” he said. “We couldn’t do it (change the climate) even if we wanted to because...

Estrogen and the Environment / Hormone Pollution and Fish Sex (2004)

To find a wealth of information concerning estrogens and the environment, enter "estrogen environment" in any major search engine and be prepared to read about 1,100,000 hyperlinks. Pollution 'changes sex of fish' A third of male fish in British rivers are in the process of changing sex due to pollution in human sewage, research by the Environment Agency suggests. A survey of 1,500 fish at 50 river sites found more than a third of males displayed female characteristics. Hormones in the sewage, including those produced by the female contraceptive pill, are thought to be the main cause. The agency says the problem could damage fish populations by reducing their ability to reproduce. It said its study highlighted the need for water companies to develop new treatments. There has been concern for some time that chemicals, known as endocrine disruptors, are causing fish to change sex. The latest study is the first to show the scale of the problem in Britain.
