1. Call Minority Leader Boehner’s office at (202)225-6205.
2. Tell the staffer who you are and where you are from.
3. Tell them that since Congressman Boehner is the Minority Leader he
represents the 72% of Americans who do not want federal funding of
abortion in health care reform. Tell the staffer you would like the
Minority Leader to ask this question to Obama on Thursday:
Obama, on September 9, 2009, you promised the American
taxpayers that under your health care plan there would not be federal
funding for abortion. Why then, was the bipartisan Stupak amendment,
which banned federal funds from going to pay for abortion on-demand,
not included in your health care proposal?
Do Not Be Lulled into believing that Health "Care" "Reform" is dead.
It is NOT dead.
It should be on the floor for a vote THIS WEEK!
OR -- they may magically make a new rule so they can pass it without a vote...read the latest update [12 March 2010]
Senate Parliamentarian: Democrats Can't Use Reconciliation for Pro-Abortion Bill
In what may be a blow to Democrats and their effort to push the pro-abortion health care bill through Congress, the Senate parliamentarian has ruled that Senate Democrats can't use the controversial reconciliation process to make the changes needed to get enough votes for the Senate bill in the House.
The Senate Parliamentarian issued a ruling saying Obama must sign the pro-abortion health care bill first because Congress can use reconciliation to make changes to it as federal law.
One idea Democrats had been exploring to ensure enough votes for the abortion funding bill is to have both chambers pass a reconciliation bill first so recalcitrant Democrats in the House who may otherwise vote no will be persuaded to support the Senate bill.
Despite the ruling, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid sent a letter to Minority Leader Mitch McConnell saying he will attempt to use the reconciliation process to get changes made to the Senate bill.
Meanwhile, Democrats May Use Slaughter Rule to Pass Pro-Abortion Health Care Without A Vote. A new strategy has developed apart from the reconciliation plan that has pro-life advocates concerned that Congress could pass the bill without taking a vote on it.
House Rules Chairwoman Louise Slaughter has developed an idea. When the House considers any legislation on the floor, it first adopts a Rule for debate that sets the parameters for debate, amendments and other procedures.
The problem Democrats have in the House is that pro-life Democrats are joining with Republicans to hold up the Senate bill because it contains massive abortion funding and other pro-abortion problems.
To get around that, Slaughter has mentioned proposing a Rule that would "deem" the Senate bill having already passed the House without an actual vote by members of the House.
The Rule would apply to the reconciliation package that makes the changes Democrats need to secure enough votes.
Under the Slaughter Rule, a majority would be needed to approve it and the idea behind adopting it is to give Democrats in tough re-election campaigns the ability to say they didn't vote for what is an unpopular pro-abortion health care bill. Instead, they can say they merely voted on a procedural rule.
The Administration and Senate Majority leaders are furiously working to pass this dangerous legislation -- containing abortion, end of life "counseling", and NO Rights of Conscience for doctors, nurses, and other medical professionals, with tremendous control over citizens, among other things, at astronomical costs -- as is, any way they can. This is definitely NOT OVER...
You may wish to contact your U.S. Rep and 2 U.S. Senators (www.Congress.org) to tell them:
"Do not support any health care reform bill that does not include the Stupak language to block government funding of abortion!"
