Women\'s Issues: Other Consequences of Embryonic Stem Cell & Cloning Research

Besides the ethical concerns surrounding embryo-destructive stem cell research and cloning, there are health concerns for the women "used" in this research.

Women are under increasing pressure to donate their eggs (ova) for research purposes of to freeze for future use.

However, the short-term risks to women, such as overstimulation of the ovaries, can result in infertility and even death. The long-term risks have not yet been adequately studied.

    Much research dealing with Adult Stem Cells, and Placental or Umbilical Cord Blood Stem Cells, has been accomplished in the last 5 years. Other recent study involves the very pluripotent stem cells found in the Wharton's Jelly of the umbilical cord of newborn babies.

    These are ethically acceptable forms of research because they do not cause harm or death to a living human being.

    Umbilical Cord Blood stem cells have been researched and used in treatments since 1988.     Embryonic Stem Cell Research involves the production of human embryos in the laboratory, and then their destruction to acquire the stem cells from them. Nazi War Crimes included "medical research" on living human beings and is now considered horrific. Human embryos are also human and deserve the dignity to live and grow peacefully, and to pursue happiness after birth. Embryonic stem cells have not been successfully used in even one medical procedure.

    On the other hand, Adult and Placental/Umbilical Cord Blood Stem Cell Research has resulted in thousands of successful medical procedures. This has not been accurately reported in the media. Ault stem cells come from human body tissue such as blood, bone marrow, skin, adipose, muscle tissue, and cardiac (heart) muscle tissue. They have all been changed into other body tissue types, such as heart tissue, nerve cells, brain and spinal cord tissue. Exponential research appears to be taking place with these ethical stem cell procedures.
