A report shows that sexually active teens are far more likely to be depressed and to attempt suicide than those who hold off until marriage. More than a quarter (25%) of teen girls who said they were sexually active also said they had been depressed "a lot of the time" or "most or all of the time" in the previous week, compared to 7.7% of girls who said they weren't sexually active.

And, 60.2% of girls who refrained from sex said they were "never or rarely" depressed, compared to just 36.8 percent of sexually active girls. For boys, 8.3% of those who were sexually active reported problems with depression, compared to just 3.4% for those who weren't.

Girls who were sexually active were 3 times more likely to say they had attempted suicide than those who weren't. Sexually active boys were nearly 9 times more likely to have attempted suicide.

The majority of teens who had become sexually active admitted they'd started too soon and expressed regret.

DOMINICANS STAGE MASSIVE DEMONSTRATION TO OPPOSE ABORTION. Thousands of pro-life protesters took to the streets and descended upon the National Congress of the Dominican Republic 25Oct to announce their emphatic opposition to efforts to decriminalize abortion in the island nation. Local media reported that due to the number of protesters traffic was halted on several streets and thoroughfares. One group peacefully entered the National Congress, where they delivered a message stating that "the decriminalization of abortion is not a sign of progress, development, or modernity, but rather a retreat for humanity and a prostitution of moral values." SUSAN G. KOMEN FOR THE CURE AWARDS 72 GRANTS TO PLANNED PARENTHOOD IN 2000-2005 PERIOD. October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Breast cancer detection, prevention, research and treatment are of the utmost importance due to the devastating impact that this disease has on women and their families.

Citizens who are interested in fighting this deadly disease should be aware that one breast cancer organization, Susan G. Komen for the Cure, has a policy of offering financial support to abortion providing facilities.

Here are the Komen-Planned Parenthood facts (followed by a list of alternative organizations):

• Planned Parenthood is the number one provider of abortions in the United States. During its 2005-2006 fiscal year, the nonprofit Planned Parenthood Federation of America performed a record 264,943 abortions according to its annual report [http://www.plannedparenthood.org/files/PPFA/Annual_report.pdf]. • Susan G. Komen for the Cure awarded 72 grants to Planned Parenthood afflilates during the years 2000 through 2005. These grants are reported on the Susan G. Komen website by entering “Planned Parenthood” on Komen’s searchable grant page [http://cms.komen.org/Komen/GrantsProgram/Community-BasedGrants/FindAGrant/index.htm].

• Nancy Brinker, Komen Founder, was listed as an advisory board member in the 2002 annual report of Planned Parenthood of North Texas, the fifth largest Planned Parenthood affiliate in the nation.

• Komen claims that grant money to Planned Parenthood is for breast services only, but Planned Parenthood records show that their breast services are declining while their abortion numbers are increasing [http://www.plannedparenthood.org/files/PPFA/Annual_report.pdf]. Are "breast services" simply window dressing to attract women into abortion clinics?

• In September of 2004, Eve Sanchez Silver, a breast cancer survivor and charter member of Komen’s Hispanic/Latina Advisory Council, resigned from Komen [http://www.clearresearch.org/latina_advisor_quits_komen.htm], stating, “As a Christian and life affirming citizen I can not reconcile the Foundation's decision to affirm life with one hand and support its destruction with the other.”

• Because Komen refused to stop providing grants to Planned Parenthood, Curves, a privately held fitness franchise firm owned by women’s health advocate Gary Heavin, ceased supporting Komen events.

Here is Komen’s response by its Public Relations Manager Kristin Kelly:"The Komen Foundation is confident that none of its community Affiliates have stopped funding Planned Parenthood as a result of the pressure from Curves, Operation Save America or any other organization. In fact, when faced with opposition from Curves or the threat that Curves franchises would no longer support the Foundation unless Planned Parenthood funding was eliminated, the Komen Foundation told Mr. Heavin (founder and CEO of Curves) that we would not, in any way, undermine the integrity of our grant-making process. In addition the Foundation told Mr. Heavin that it would continue to allow Komen Affiliates to provide breast health education and screening grants to Planned Parenthood if the grant application was approved through the process outlined above. As a result, Curves chose to suspend its support of Komen Affiliate events, including sponsorship of the Komen Race for the Cure (r). In 2003, Komen Affiliates awarded $38.4 million in grants to support community outreach programs, including 21 grants to their local Planned Parenthood chapters totaling more than $475,000."Source: Komen website as copied into Powerpoint Presentation by Eve Sanchez, former Komen board member, http://stopabortionbreastcancer.org/talks/denver_silver060930.pdf

• In June 2007, Komen’s funding to Planned Parenthood resulted in a policy of non-support from the St. Louis Archdiocese based on facts outlined in their position statement [http://stlprolife.org/KomenfortheCure.html]. Breast cancer organizations that do not support abortion facilities or destructive human embryo experimentation [http://www.bdfund.org/breastcancerorgs.asp].
Komen, Plaxo and Cancer… October is Breast Cancer Awareness month and the hot item right now is Susan G. Komen for the Cure. All people are concerned for anyone that has cancer. We should be doing all that we can to take care of the sick and needy and to find cures for cancer. But we should be finding cures, not funding for the advancement of the diseases. This is what I believe the Susan Komen for the Cure to be doing.

Recently a new study came out [The Breast Cancer Epidemic: Modeling and Forecasts Based on Abortion and Other Risk Factors, Patrick S. Carroll, M.A.,  Journal of American Physicians and Surgeons Volume 12 Number 3 Fall 2007, http://www.jpands.org/vol12no3/carroll.pdf] whose author came to this conclusion: abortion is the "best predictor of breast cancer."

For instance, in countries with high abortion rates (England and Wales) we can expect high breast cancer rates while in countries with low abortion rates (Northern Ireland and the Irish Republic) a smaller increase is expected.

What does this have to do with Susan G. Komen for the Cure? Everything!

Between 2000 and 2005 Komen awarded 72 grants to affiliates of Planned Parenthood, the nation’s largest abortion provider [http://www.rnclife.org/blog/2007/10/susan-g-komen-awards-72-grants-to.html].

In the year 2003 alone the grants totaled $475,000.

If there is a link between abortion and breast cancer, as the study above suggests, then Komen isn’t racing for a cure – it is racing to fund the spread of breast cancer.

To add fuel to the fire, Komen has come out endorsing human embryonic stem cell research [http://www.all.org/article.php?id=10161#21]. In a Fall 2006 newsletter the organization said, “embryonic stem cells have the most potential for cancer stem cell research.”

That is not true [adult and umbilical cord stem cells are presently being used to successfully treat thousands of patients every year].

Beside that, taking stem cells from human embryonic persons KILLS THEM.

Plaxo (online address book service)  is raising awareness of breast cancer by urging its users to use its eCard service. Plaxo is donating 100 percent of the proceeds from the new eCard subscriber fee to Susan G Komen for the Cure.

There is a link between Komen, Planned Parenthood and abortion.

"Those using Plaxo should discontinue it until they stop donating to Susan G. Komen for the Cure. You can contact Plaxo by e-mailing or calling 650-254-5400." CLINICAL PSYCHOLOGIST LISTS 5 WAYS SAME-SEX 'MARRIAGE' HARMS CHILDREN PSYCHOLOGICALLY. Same-sex marriage is one of the hottest and most controversial domestic issues in America. As a result, many professional organizations have stepped into the fray and taken formal positions with the hope of influencing public opinion and policy. One such group is the American Psychological Association (APA) that has officially endorsed the legalization of same-sex marriage.

Many psychologists, however, including members of the APA, disagree with the organization's pro-same- sex-marriage position. One of those dissenters is Trayce Hansen, Ph.D., a licensed clinical psychologist and former member of the APA, who opposes same- sex marriage on the grounds it will be detrimental to the children of same-sex couples as well as to other children who will be influenced by the all-types-of- marriage-are-equivalent social message.

Dr. Hansen's opposition to same-sex marriage is explained in her recently released opinion article titled "Love Isn't Enough: Five Reasons Why Same- Sex Marriage Will Harm Children." In the article she expounds on five reasons why it is in the best interest of children to be raised by a married mother and father:

First, children require mother-love and father- love, both of which are equally important but qualitatively different. Second, children progress through certain developmental stages during which they need a mother, and other stages when they need a father. Third, children require an opposite-sexed parent to help them moderate their own gender-linked inclinations. Fourth, same-sex marriage will increase sexual uncertainty and sexual experimentation by young people. And finally, if same-sex marriage is permitted, then other types of marriages such as polygamous and polyamorous ones also would have to be allowed leading to more confusion in the lives of children.

In her article Dr. Hansen expresses compassion for homosexuals who desire marriage. But she nonetheless concludes, as does 2,000 years of accumulated cultural wisdom, that the ideal marital and parental configuration is a mother and father and that disregarding such wisdom would be tantamount to using children as guinea pigs in a radical and risky experiment.

NATIONAL 40-DAY CAMPAIGN MAKES PROGRESS AGAINST ABORTION. The national campaign by pro-life groups across the country to pray at abortion centers for 40 days is making inroads into stopping abortions. As they have done on the local level before, the national campaign has helped numerous women changing their minds about abortion and better organized pro-life groups in various cities.

David Bereit, national campaign director for 40 Days for Life, told LifeNews.com about the progress in a statement.

"One of the many positive impacts we're hearing about 40 Days for Life is that the nationwide collection of pro-life vigils is both invigorating veteran pro-lifers and bringing many new participants into pro-life efforts," he explained.

The campaign includes prayer and fasting, and a constant vigil and community outreach that is being conducted simultaneously in more than 80 communities in 33 states.

Many of the efforts involve round-the-clock prayer vigils at abortion facilities that will continue through November 4.

"People have been waiting for a new, effective way to express their pro-life point of view," said Bereit.

"We're finding that thousands across the country are embracing this campaign as something that is both new and exciting, but also strong and effective in getting the message out that abortion is an evil that we will not tolerate in our communities, in our nation, in our society," he said.

Bereit told LifeNews.com about some of the specific successes.

In Hamilton, New Jersey, 40 Days for Life has moved hundreds of pro-lifers from the sidelines into the field of play.

The peaceful prayer vigils are bringing people out to pray who had not come out during protests in Niagra Falls, New York.

"One seasoned pro life advocate has heard of more babies saved from abortion in the last few days than in the last six months combined," Bereit said about the effort in Michigan.

"We have people who are for the first time putting pro-life bumper stickers on their cars and lawn signs in front of their homes," a Reno pro-life advocate told Bereit about the campaign there. "It's small, but for our community, it's a start."

And in communities from Madison, Wisconsin to Waco, Texas and Columbia, South Carolina, churches are finally uniting against abortion.

MANASSAS VIRGINIA CITY COUNCIL PASSES RESOLUTION TO STUDY ABORTION REGS. City councils don't normally get involved in the abortion debate, especially when it concerns regulating abortion centers themselves, but that's what the council in this Virginia city has done. Last week it passed a resolution that would create a committee to study what regulations and guidelines abortion centers there operate under and to determine if stricter guidelines are needed. Amethyst Health Center for Women appears to be the only abortion business in the city at this time. Virginia currently requires a 24-hour waiting period and parental consent before an abortion can be done the state Board of Medicine and the Department of Health Professions regulate abortion facilities and abortion practitioners. "The focus of this [resolution] is to look at the health and safety requirements being done" at Amethyst, City Council member Marc Aveni, the resolution's author, said. Aveni added that he is concerned with issues such as cleanliness, after-care, inspections, hospital privileges and procedures performed on minors. The council's options concerning guidelines and regulations for the abortion center include changing the definition of a hospital to include any medical facility that performs 25 abortions or more annually. It also could require Amethyst and future abortion centers to meet higher standards.

REAL WOMEN'S VOICES LOBBYING SEMINAR A HUGE SUCCESS. Last Thursday the Susan B. Anthony List joined with National Right to Life Committee and FRCAction to present Real Women's Voices, a training conference for pro-life women activists from across the country. And there is no doubt it made a difference. When asked if she would recommend Real Women's Voices to friends, one activist said, "Absolutely! It can make a difference in one's way of thinking." From dealing with the media to discussing the abortion issue, attendees learned the practical skills necessary to make a difference for Life in their home communities.

The activists also witnessed inspirational words from Congress' dedicated and courageous Pro-Life leaders: Senator Sam Brownback (KS-Sen), Rep. Mike Ferguson (NJ-07), Rep. Virginia Foxx (NC-05), and Rep. Jean Schmidt (OH-02).

After a day of intensive training, activists headed off to lobbying meetings with their legislators, where they discussed the Equal Rights Amendment and the importance of adding language to make the amendment neutral on the abortion issue.

At the end of the day, women activists were inspired to make a difference for the unborn. One participant said, "When I came in this morning, I had no interest in political office. By the end of the day, I was saying, I have to run for something." [24Oct07, DC, LifeNews.com]

URUGUAYAN SENATE TO VOTE AGAIN ON DECRIMINALIZATION OF ABORTION. The Uruguayan Senate is preparing to vote again on decriminalization of abortion in the country. The legislation would allow abortion for virtually any reason during the first three months of pregnancy.   Although the new vote was originally scheduled for today, it has now been delayed to make time for more hearings, which its proponents hope will break the current deadlock over the issue. The most recent vote, on October 17, resulted in a 15-15 tie, which was much closer than votes in earlier years.

According to the Uruguayan newspaper El Espectador, the bill's proponents plan to hold a new vote, section by section, on the legislation, which will then be sent to the Chamber of Deputies (the lower legislative house). If the legislation decriminalizing abortion is not approved in the Senate vote, it can then be re-attached by the Chamber during its vote, which will then be returned to the Senate.

The sections of the legislation that have already been approved include mandatory "sex education" down to the elementary school level, which will indoctrinate students with the idea that homosexual sexual behavior and abortion are "rights". Those sections were approved unaninmously.

The abortion provisions are generally supported by the ruling "Broad Front" alliance of socialist parties, although two members switched their positions on October 17th, preventing passage. Uruguay's president, also a Broad Front socialist, is an obstetrician and is opposed to the measures as well. He has repeatedly promised to veto them if they are approved by the Congress, although a referendum could still be held to override the veto. Uruguay is one of the most liberal nations in Latin America, and a recent opinion poll indicated support for legalizing abortion.

PRO-LIFE DAY OF SILENT SOLIDARITY. Students faced insults, attacks and harassment across the country as 4,000 schools participated in the annual Pro-Life Day of Silent Solidarity. The event is a silent witness to teens and college students to remind them of how abortion destroys the lives of babies before birth and hurts women.

But despite the attacks they faced, pro-life students report they were excited to take part in the annual event.

“Before I thought it'd be so hard and everyone would make fun of me,” a student named Lindsey wrote on the sponsoring group's web site, “but about 15-20 decided to join me and told me they felt the same way.”

Another student named Josh said "People also started joining in during the day as they found about it from the fliers."

Bryan Kemper the founder and director of Stand True Ministries said traffic to the group's web site was so high during the day that it had to temporarily shut down, according to the Christian Post. Due to the problem, the list of participating schools is down. When it went down at 6:00 PM on 22October there were people from over 4,350 campuses in 19 countries registered. http://www.standtrue.com/pages/silent.htm

A participant named Carolyn said she was heckled by friends who said they support abortion and she couldn't break her vow of silene to respond -- something she said frustrated her.

"[I]t just makes me want to weep to think of things my generation thinks [are] okay," said Carolyn. Due to the traffic problem with the site our list of schools is down. http://www.standtrue.com/pages/silent.htm; www.silentday.org [25Oct07, Ertelt, LifeNews.com]

LOUISIANA ELECTS PRO-LIFE GOVERNOR. The voters of Louisiana, known to be one of the most pro-life states in the entire nation, have affirmed that status by electing a staunchly pro-life, Catholic family man to be their next governor. On October 20, Republican Bobby Jindal, surviving especially vicious attacks against his candidacy, became only the second South Asian descent American ever elected as governor of an American state. He will assume office in January.

At the young age of 36, Jindal has an extensive public service record having served in multiple leadership positions and most currently as a member of the House of Representatives since 2004. In his position as a member of the House, Jindal has maintained a staunchly pro-life record and earned a perfect score from the National Right to Life for his pro-life votes in the most recent House session.

In an unsuccessful 2003 run for governor of Louisiana, Jindal was specifically targeted for his ardent pro-life positions. At that time, he unapologetically stated to a local newspaper that he was "100 percent pro-life with no exceptions. I believe all life is precious."

Jindal will replace the current Louisiana governor, Kathleen Blanco. Blanco claims to be a pro-life Catholic but has publicly asserted that abortion law exceptions in the cases of rape and incest are "reasonable."

According to Benjamin Clapper, the Executive Director of the Louisiana Right to Life Federation, "Louisiana Right to Life is looking forward to working with Governor-elect Jindal to further the pro-life tradition of Louisiana."

As previously reported by LifeSiteNews.com, in June of this year, Louisiana lawmakers voted unanimously in the House of Representatives and the State Senate to ban partial-birth abortion. The House and Senate also approved a pro-life bill that would have made abortion illegal in every instance except where the life of the mother was in danger. The bill could only come into effect if Roe v. Wade was overturned by the Supreme Court. [23Oct07, Meg Jalsevac, LifeSiteNews.com]

Editorial: Is the 2008 Presidency the Motive for Huge New Abortion Centers?
Life Dynamics says ailing abortion industry is relying on 'universal health care' to jack up profits

"Like I always say, if you want to understand the abortion business, just follow the money trail."

According to Mark Crutcher, President of Life Dynamics, the abortion industry in America, particularly abortion giant Planned Parenthood (PP), is experiencing both a financial and a service demand crisis. In an entry entitled "On the Trail to..." on his Life Dynamics blog, Crutcher asserts that abortion providers are looking to the likes of [certain candidates] to bolster the floundering abortion industry.

Life Dynamics is a pro-life website that offers many resources to assist the pro-life movement throughout America. They are most notably known for their part in exposing those involved in the illegal sale of body parts taken from aborted babies.

The motto of the site as stated on their website is: "Pro-life: Without compromise. Without exception. Without apology."

Crutcher begins his article drawing attention to the new abortion facilities that PP has deceptively constructed while using false names to apply for the necessary building permits. The most notable example is the PP abortion mega-center that was recently constructed in Aurora, Illinois under the company name of Gemini, Inc.

Crutcher claims that the motives behind such secrecy are much more crucial and worthy of note than the actual secrecy itself.

To explain, Crutcher's article reveals that, despite the few newly opened facilities, the number of abortion facilities has steadily declined since the 1980's due to their inability to retain staff.

While the abortion industry frequently blames their staff retention issues on fear of violence directed at abortion staff from pro-life forces, Crutcher dispels this as a mere myth by quoting statistics from the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health that show that "during the period of the greatest violence against abortionists in history, more farmers and twice as many hairdressers were murdered on the job than abortion clinic workers and abortionists combined."

Instead, Crutcher partially blames the abortion industry's collapse on the public stigma that is "naturally associated with the killing of an unborn child."

"The abortion lobby had always counted on legalization to erase the stigma of abortion, but that never happened. What they refused to accept was that abortion is like pornography and prostitution in that the stigma is related to the act itself and not to its legal status. That means the stigma is never going to go away. Today, the abortion industry finally seems resigned to this and has decided that the stench of abortion is something they will just have to live with."

Crutcher continues to give an in-depth analysis of the grim financial situation that abortion providers find themselves facing today.

Due to statistics that show that when the cost of abortion is raised, the number of abortions plummet, most abortion facilities still charge between $300 - $500 to perform an abortion - almost the exact price that an abortion cost when it was first legalized in the 1970's.

"They need higher abortion prices to solve their financial problems, but the lowered abortion rate produced by these higher prices would threaten their political survivability… …The problem they now face is that the cost of doing business has risen dramatically during that time. So while a $350 abortion may have been profitable in 1973 dollars, it may not be profitable in today's dollars."

Crutcher warns that PP's key motivation in constructing new facilities despite these figures is the universal health care plans proposed by the leading Democratic contenders in the current presidential campaign. Crutcher posits that, in the advent of universal health care coverage of abortion, abortion prices will skyrocket with the assurance that tax-payer funded coverage will foot the bill.

"That is also why the nation's death merchants see Hillary Care as their salvation. They are relying on socialized medicine to solve their current financial problems by converting every $350 private-pay abortion into a $3000 government-pay abortion. The icing on the cake is that, since the customers will be offered these abortions for "free," the abortion rate is guaranteed to skyrocket."

The universal health plans proposed thus far in the campaign corroborate Crutcher's assertions. Senator Obama and Elizabeth Edwards, speaking for her husband at a campaign event, pledged to include "reproductive services" in their universal health care plans. Both campaigns confirmed that these services would include abortion.

Senator Clinton's proposed plan does not explicitly refer to abortion coverage but instead alludes to 'family planning' coverage for all women, a phrase frequently used by political pundits to cloak the stigma of abortion. Clinton is well known as a self-proclaimed champion of the Prevention First Act which provided 'reproductive health' services to low income women and mandated prescription contraceptive coverage by insurance companies.
