SWEDEN. Swelling crime rates and a parallel growth in suicide show the dark side of Sweden’s experiment with social liberalism.
Despite the country’s status among social liberals as the ultimate model for successfully breaking the shackles of “moral restrictions” on a modern nation, it is becoming more difficult to ignore the accelerating degeneration of Swedish society.
Stephen Crampton, Chief Counsel of the American Family Association Center for Law and Policy (CLP), compiled information on crime rates and social breakdown in Sweden from a Swedish media source, in an article published on the AFA website February 17.
Below are some of the facts he compiled:
• There is more crime in Sweden than in New York City, though they are comparable in population.
• Drug abuse is rampant, with the number of deaths from overdoses having doubled in the past 10 years.
• Sweden has one of the highest incidences of rape in the world.
• Burglaries are so numerous that many citizens have stopped reporting them, because the police are overloaded and cannot undertake to investigate them all anyway.
• Attacks on money transports (highway robbery) are so frequent that the transporters are threatening to quit, thereby effectively closing ATM’s all over the country.
• Violent outdoor muggings are becoming routine, having increased 15% last year alone.
• In Stockholm, the police recently admitted having lied when they claimed to have neutralized some 130 of the city’s most prominent gangsters; in reality, their sting operation was a bust.
• Swedish courts are plagued with perjurious police officers who routinely lie to support fellow cops in trouble.

PATERNITY FRAUD RAMPANT IN U.S. 30% of those named as fathers bilked of child support unjustly More than three years ago, a Maine district court judge ruled that Geoffrey Fisher no longer had to pay child support for a child that wasn't his.
But that didn't stop the state from revoking Fisher's driver's license and coming after him for thousands of dollars it says he owes in back payments.
Last year, Maine sent Fisher, 35, a letter seeking $11,450 in child support, even though officials know that DNA tests proved he isn't the father of the child in question.
As the nation experiences an unprecedented increase in unwed motherhood, more men are finding themselves named as "fathers," for purposes of child support, simply because of their ability to pay, say several recent studies. It's called "paternity fraud," and one state that examined the problem found as many as 30 percent of those paying child support were, indeed, not the biological fathers of the children being supported.
The most recent comprehensive study took place in New Hampshire under the auspices of the Commission on the Status of Men.
The commission found that even men who later were able to prove they were paying support for the children of other men were sometimes still forced by courts and state agencies to continue.
"Paternity fraud is a growing concern for men and children everywhere," concluded the commission in a report completed in November. "It can spawn considerable grief for the men who may or may not be emotionally attached to a child they later discover was fathered by another; and possibly unsettling for children who may discover the false nature of their paternity."
The New Hampshire commission took note of the case of Geoffrey Fisher.
Fisher had a brief relationship with a woman eight years ago and when she got pregnant and told him he was the father, he believed her. He began paying child support but eventually fell behind.
In the summer of 2001, the Maine Department of Health and Human Services took him to court because of delinquent payments. The court ordered him to pay up, and the state had his license suspended under the "deadbeat dad" law.
That fall the girl, then 3, was placed in foster care. When Fisher pushed for custody, the state ordered a paternity test, which proved he wasn't the father.
At that point, one branch of the human services department told him he could no longer see the girl because he wasn't the father, while another said he owed $10,000 and couldn't have a driver's license because he was the father.
Fisher thought the matter resolved when a judge ruled he no longer had to pay child support in January 2002.
But then last spring, the Maine attorney general's office claimed Fisher still owed support payments for the time from the child's birth until she reached 3 years old, when tests proved Fisher was not the father.
"Paternity fraud is a growing problem for both men, who should have a higher level of confidence on the paternity of their children, and for the children who need a reliable history of both parents for the maintenance of their physical and emotional health," concluded the New Hampshire commission.
Carnell Smith, a paternity fraud expert, says that 30 percent of the cases he sampled proved negative.
Like New Hampshire, California has also established a commission to explore the problem, based on reports that 14 percent are being misnamed as fathers. A report is expected later this year.
Florida is about to pass a new law that would end child support if a man proves he's not the father. Like most states, Florida currently requires that child support – once legally established – continue until the child's 18th birthday, regardless of who the real biological father is. Eleven states have changed similar laws since 1994.
A new state law took effect in Colorado this year that permits men, for the first time, to challenge his paternity of alleged offspring – at least during the proceedings of a divorce, separation or child-support action. However, once a final order is entered, the new law says, the man is barred from presenting evidence of non-paternity.
But there is also a problem with the way some DNA tests are conducted and analyzed, say experts. For instance, one physician reported that two unrelated men – one black, the other white – both tested with a probability of paternity at 99 percent for the same child. "Despite testing facility claims of a 99 percent accuracy rate, all men are at risk, whether it's through a wrong paternity judgment or paternity fraud," says Darrin Bush, developer of PaternityTestFlaw.com. "There is a chance that a man can be determined to be the father of a child even if he never had relations with the mother. The deck appears to be stacked against men." http://www.worldnetdaily.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=48871 February 18, 2006 WorldNetDaily.com N Valko RN, 23Feb06
NATIONAL EDUCATION ASSOCIATION GIVES BIG TO LIBERAL CAUSES. The NEA is the parent organization for state education labor unions.
“In 2005 the NEA gave $51,000 to the liberal People for the American Way. The nation's largest teachers union also gave $15,000 to the Human Rights Campaign, a gay-activist group, and The National Women’s Law Center, a pro-abortion feminist group which currently has a petition opposing the nomination of Samuel Alito featured on its Web site, received $5,000.”
One teacher in California lamented the fact that her forced dues were being used to fund organizations and agendas in conflict with her beliefs. “I feel that it’s a violation of my own ethics, and I’m forced to give them my money. I feel really unhappy about it.”
There is some good news though – according to Martha Daniels: “There is a groundswell today among America's teachers, who are leaving traditional teacher labor unions, such as the National Education Association and American Federation of Teachers, to join nonunion professional associations. This exodus from teacher labor unions has the numbers to back up the claim as more than 265,000 teachers have left the unions to join independent nonunion professional associations.” [posted 1Feb06, http://www.ccbama.org; 26Jan06, http://www.ccbama.com/audio/CCBAMA-012606.mp3]
CANADA'S CONSERVATIVES DEFEAT PRO-ABORTION LIBERAL PARTY. In national elections 23Jan06, the governing Liberal Party of Canada, led by Prime Minister Paul Martin, was decisively defeated by the opposition Conservative Party.
The win represented the first time in 12 years that a Canadian right-wing party has taken the reigns of power from the long-governing Liberals. Some pro-family and pro-life advocates hope the change will positively effect Canada's representation at the UN which has been notoriously hostile to their issues.
Stephen Harper [member of the House of Commons from Alberta, Leader of the Official Opposition in the House] led the Conservatives to a win, picking up almost 30 seats and bringing the total number of Conservative members to 124. Harper will now go through a transition process that will last only a couple of weeks, at the end of which he will be made the Prime Minister of Canada.
The pro-abortion Liberal Party lost more than 30 seats in the House leaving them with 103 members, and now becomes the Official Opposition. Martin announced he would resign as head of the Liberal Party following his defeat.
Over the past 12 years, the Liberal Party's choices for Canadian Ambassador to the United Nations and for membership in delegations to U.N. conferences have advanced the pro-abortion, pro-homosexual marriage and pro-prostitution agenda.
Wendy Wright [Exec VP, Concerned Women for America] said that the Canadian Liberal Government's foreign social policy "has been in the forefront" in supporting the "most radical policies" that are considered at the UN. Wright points out that these are "policies that do not even conform to Canadian" legal standards such as a Canadian delegation's recent opposition to anti-prostitution language being put into drafts of proposed UN treaties.
While the Conservative Party does include within its ranks some members who support abortion rights, it is overwhelmingly either pro-life or at least skeptical of the culture of abortion and willing to restrict the procedure. Also, the Conservatives support national sovereignty and oppose attempts by the United Nations to impose abortion rights on other nations.
The normal procedure for a new Canadian gov't will be to now recall Liberal Ambassador to the UN, Allan Rock, and to replace him with a member of the Conservative Party. A small, radically pro-abortion party, the New Democrats picked up a few seats to reach 29 members of the House. [Friday Fax, 27Jan06]
TEENS STAGE 'DIE IN' TO PROTEST ROE: Bodies strewn on ocean pier mark 33rd anniversary. Dozens of young people collapsed as if dead on a pier in Huntington Beach, Calif., to mark the 33rd anniversary of the Roe vs. Wade Supreme Court decision that wiped out state laws banning abortion.
The youth, part of an organization called Survivors, wants to symbolize the millions of children that have died in what they call "the holocaust of our generation."
The group drew attention in March 2004 when it conducted "die-ins" in front of the "March for Women's Lives" in Washington, D.C., and also during the Democratic National Convention in Boston.
The group says it is using the protest today, one day before the anniversary, to call attention to the fact that the Roe decision and the millions of abortions it sanctions is not "settled law," as some senators have insisted during recent hearings from Supreme Court nominees. "With the appointment of two new justices to the Supreme Court, our nation is at a turning point," the group says in a statement.
"Abortion never should have been the law of the land. The tide is changing. Americans are coming to grips with the horror of abortion and the reality that abortion hurts women. The changing face of the Supreme Court is a reflection of America’s change of heart."
One of the young people participating today, 15-year-old Kara W., said she hopes people passing by "will see our bodies and contemplate how abortion has killed one-third of our generation."
"We hope that they will look forward with us to the time when Roe versus Wade and the death it unleashed is just a dark past in our country," she said.
"Just as I can't imagine slavery and separate drinking fountains for 'coloreds,' I hope the next generation will not be able to imagine legalized child-killing."
Arianna Grumbine, spokeswoman for Survivors, believes the demonstration is effective because America is a "visual society."
"They need to see, at least symbolically, the reality of what abortion has done in the past 33 years," she said. "This protest is an effective way to visualize that reality. Passersby are challenged with the question, 'What if the people you see lying on the ground were actually dead? Would you care? Would you do something?'"
