100+ Cities Will Rally Against Obama HHS Mandate

Next month, thousands of pro-life advocates in more than 100 cities will engage in rallies to stand up for their religious freedom against the controversial HHS mandate the Obama administration put in place. http://www.lifenews.com/2012/09/12/more-than-100-cities-will-rally-against-obama-hhs-mandate/

Platforms of Both Major Political Parties
A Platform is what the party stands for at any particular time.
the differences between their positions on issues important to social conservatives — such as life, marriage and religious freedom — are marked.

That’s why 28 leaders —including Focus on the Family President Jim Daly and myself — signed a letter pointing out the strengths of the 2012 GOP document. I discussed it earlier this week on the CitizenLink Report. Click here to watch: http://www.citizenlink.com/2012/09/11/citizenlink-report-the-letter/

Here are some of those differences:

The Democratic Party platform calls for repeal of the federal Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA). That’s the law that recognizes as marriage only the union of one man and one woman, and specifies that states are not required to recognize same-sex unions performed elsewhere. The Republican Party fully supports DOMA and defended the law in its platform; it supports constitutional amendment for one man one woman

The Democratic Party platform unequivocally Opposes Restrictions on abortion at any point during pregnancy — and specifies that tax money should pay for the abortion if the mother cannot. Supports 'family planning around the globe'. By contrast, the Republican Party platform supports a constitutional amendment extending protections to preborn children. The Democratic Party supports public education, teacher unions, and no teacher lay-offs, regardless of the economic situations present. The Republican Party also states parents are responsible for education of their children, not the public school system.

One more thing. After reporters revealed that references to God in past Democratic Party platforms, as well as references to Jerusalem being the capital of Israel, had been deleted from the 2012 document, a vote was taken among this year’s Democratic delegates to add the language back in. The motion required a two-thirds vote to pass. The vote was taken three times, and was inconclusive at best. Delegates booed the moderator when he declared the motion had carried.

It is clear that each party’s leaders would steer the country in startlingly different directions on matters of life, marriage and religious freedom, and that those directions clearly cannot be reconciled.

New Book, Planned Bullyhood, Exposes Planned Parenthood's Shakedown of Cancer Group Susan G. Komen for the Cure

Former Susan G. Komen Vice President Karen Handel's new book released today, Planned Bullyhood, reports on Planned Parenthood's orchestrated shakedown of the breast
cancer group, Susan G. Komen for the Cure, in February 2012. Handel explained that Planned Parenthood president Cecile Richards spent weeks organizing what Handel called "one of the most contemptible acts of coordinated bullying in modern American political history."

Richards' allies included the Obama administration, abortion enthusiasts in the Big Media (including MSNBC's Andrea Mitchell), 26 U.S. senators (25 Democrats, one independent), the highest levels of the Democratic National Committee (including Debbie Wasserman Shultz) and others. Handel said the tyrannical left was unified in its overt preference for Planned Parenthood over the best interests of Komen and women's health.

Handel provided evidence suggesting some Komen insiders and even Democratic commentator and lobbyist Hilary Rosen — Komen's adviser at the public relations agency, SKDKnickerbocker – may have leaked information to Planned Parenthood.

Komen founder Nancy Goodman Brinker had once served on a Planned Parenthood's advisory board in Texas. Despite the long friendship between the two organizations and millions of dollars given to Planned Parenthood during the last two decades, Cecile Richards ruthlessly back stabbed her Komen friends, even after having promised not to create a firestorm. Richards threatened Komen's financial well-being by urging corporate and individual donors to stop giving to the breast cancer group.

Komen's 2011 grants — allegedly intended for education and breast cancer screening — totaled $680,000. Komen executives considered the grants "low quality" and of poor service to women because Planned Parenthood only provided manual breast exams. It referred women elsewhere for mammograms, and the results weren't measurable.

Handel argued that Komen's "ill-timed decision" to stop the grants coincided with a political decision inside the Obama administration. In order to win the women's vote, the administration created a smokescreen to conceal its "abysmal economic record" and the particularly adverse impact of unemployment on women. More…

The Coalition on Abortion/Breast Cancer is an international women's organization founded to protect the health and save the lives of women by educating and providing information on abortion as a risk factor for breast cancer.

‘Which One Was Conceived in Rape?’: the Viral Image that Deflates pro-Abortion Rhetoric

[NOTE: see image at http://www.lifesitenews.com/news/which-one-was-conceived-in-rape-the-viral-image-that-deflated-pro-abortion?utm_source=LifeSiteNews.com+Daily+Newsletter&utm_campaign=74e141aca3-LifeSiteNews_com_US_Headlines_08_27_2012&utm_medium=email]

The fuzzy grayscale ultrasound images of the two unborn babies are practically identical. But the jarring question above the images makes everyone take a second look: “Which of these two human beings was conceived in rape?”

The viewer is compelled to say: “I can’t tell, they both look the same.”

And that’s exactly the point.

Whether a baby is conceived in the terrible circumstance of rape or in the happy circumstance of a loving spousal embrace, the fact remains that both are human beings. Both, if given a chance, will flourish by being loved, and both will requite that love in due season.

But that is not the answer abortion advocates ever want anyone to give when discussing rape and abortion.

Since LifeSiteNews posted the image, created by Abolish Human Abortion, to its “We Can End Abortion” Facebook page last week, it has been shared 4774 times and received 4,344 likes and 526 comments. Many of those comments attack the very core of one of the commonest arguments used to justify abortion – namely that abortion is necessary in cases of rape.

Brittany recounted how her friend who was raped decided to keep the child, adding that her friend now has a “beautiful 16-year-old daughter named Hope.”

Nora mentioned that her best friend was the “child of a rape” adding that she is the “neatest person I know, very caring and funny.”

Yoana told about her friend who was raped at the age of 14. “She was heartbroken, scared, and pregnant. She never thought about abortion. She said, ‘a baby had the right to live’. Even though it was hard, she had family and friends to support her. She took therapy classes. She became herself again after her child was born. Now her baby is 10 years of age. She has no hard feelings, nor does she wish that she had never had her daughter. She loves her.”

These commenters hit upon the one truth that abortion advocates know they cannot argue against, namely that the baby conceived in rape is really no different from you or me.

A woman named Yas put it best: “To be honest, my daughter is the result of rape, but to me I look at her as a gift from God.”

Isn’t that the truth? Every child is a gift, no matter how he or she came to be. Every child has something special that they can give to the world, no matter who the child’s father was.

A woman named Nicole was glad that someone convinced her mother to think of her as a gift, not merely as a product of rape to be dealt with by abortion.

“I want to just take a minute and tell you my story,” she wrote. “I was the result of a rape, and because someone talked my biological mom into not aborting, I am alive and I now have a little bundle of joy of my own. And just so you know, if my daughter ever got raped, I would tell her that that baby is a miracle…”

Men and women who were conceived in rape are the ones who see the huge flaw in the rape argument for abortion. They unflinchingly point out, ‘Why should the innocent child conceived in rape receive the death penalty for the crime of the father?’ Some even suggest that the rapist should be the one punished in this way, not the unborn baby.

No one understands the flaw in the rape-abortion argument better than Rebecca Kiessling, who at 18 learned that she was conceived in a brutal rape by a serial rapist who held her mother at knife-point.

“Please understand that whenever you identify yourself as being ‘pro-choice,’ or whenever you make that exception for rape,” she writes in her testimony, “what that really translates into is you being able to stand before me, look me in the eye, and say to me, ‘I think your mother should have been able to abort you.’”

“That’s a pretty powerful statement,” she says. “I would never say anything like that to someone. I would never say to someone, ‘If I had my way, you’d be dead right now.’”

“No — this is the ruthless reality of that position, and I can tell you that it hurts and it’s mean.”

Research shows that in cases of sexual assault in which a child is conceived, the welfare of a mother and her child are never at odds. It turns out that what is good for the child is actually what is best for the mother.

Numerous testimonies by raped women who have chosen life for their child, which have been collected by the Elliot Institute, suggest that the raped woman’s loving affirmation for her c

hild is the one thing that really brings her healing and restores her sense of self-worth.

One woman named Anna, after comparing the ultrasound images of the two unborn babies, commented how her own child conceived in rape affected her life.

“I was raped when I was 13. The beautiful baby girl that God gave me from that has helped to heal me more than anything else on this planet could have. To that baby you are still a whole person. You are not broken or damaged. You are their everything! My baby girl is 17 now, and she is absolutely amazing! I cannot imagine life without her.”

These commenters have hit upon a fundamental truth that transcends biological reality, namely that a baby in the womb, no matter how it got there, is a human being who deserves life. It matters not who the father is.

Each unborn child, conceived in rape or not, is a unique and unrepeatable human life destined for greatness.

Julie Makimaa, who was conceived in rape and now works to defend the right to life of all children in the womb, said it best: “It doesn’t matter how I began. What matters is who I will become.”

LIFE Wristband Dropped in Store Parking Lot Saved Baby Scheduled for Abortion

Rachel remembers being excited as she purchased a red Bound4LIFE bracelet with the single word LIFE engraved on it. Wearing the bracelet wasn’t a fad or fashion statement for her, but a sign of her commitment to pray daily for the ending of abortion.

But one day, as Rachel was loading groceries into her car from Walmart, the LIFE Band inexplicably slipped off her wrist and landed on the parking lot, without her even knowing it had happened.

“I looked everywhere for it — in my car, my bedroom, everywhere,” said Rachel in a testimony obtained by LifeSiteNews. “I finally decided that it must have slipped off while I was carrying those groceries to the car.”

While being perplexed about how the bracelet could have fallen off her wrist without her knowing it, Rachel nevertheless hoped that “somebody who needs it will find it.”
The Bound4Life LIFE band, the same kind that Rachel dropped in the parking lot.

Not many months later, Rachel began a job as a server in a local Olive Garden restaurant. One day a mother and her newborn baby came in and were seated in her section.

Rachel greeted the woman at the table and remembers her being “very pretty” and “probably in her mid-20s.”

“She seemed a bit shy, but she smiled as I greeted her.”

Rachel served her a drink, took her order, and made some small talk about how the woman’s baby was beautiful and seemed so peaceful as she slept in her baby seat.

As Rachel talked to the woman, she caught a quick glimpse of a red bracelet wrapped around the woman’s wrist with the distinctive word LIFE engraved on it.

“You have a LIFE Band, huh?” Rachel ventured.

The woman was at first confused about what Rachel was referring to, but then clued in.

“Yeah, I found this in a parking lot,” the woman replied.

The woman, noticing that Rachel was curious about the bracelet, mentioned that she had a peculiar story about the bracelet that she would not mind sharing. Rachel was all ears.

The woman recounted that a few months previous she was dismayed to find herself unexpectedly pregnant. She had gone out shopping to distract herself because she had just scheduled an appointment to get an abortion and was terrified about it. The appointment was two days away.

As the woman walked from her car into Walmart, a red bracelet lying on the ground caught her eye. She picked it up and saw that it had the word LIFE on it. She quickly stowed the bracelet in her purse and continued with her shopping.

That night the woman sat in her room crying, filled with an awful dread about what she was about to do. She was worried about what her parents would think and felt the need to “get rid of the problem.” As well, her boyfriend had abandoned her, making abortion seem like the only choice that was left.

At this point in the woman’s story, Rachel could not hold back her tears any longer. She completely forgot that she was supposed to be working and that she had other tables to serve.

The woman recounted how at this bleakest of moments, she suddenly remembered the bracelet in her purse. She pulled it out and held it in her fingers until she drifted off into a troubled sleep.

At one point she suddenly awoke in the middle of the night with the word “LIFE” surging through her mind and heart.

In the morning, the woman canceled her abortion appointment.

“I was stunned,” Rachel remembers about hearing this incredible story. “All I could do was cry. This beautiful baby girl that was sitting in the carrier was her almost aborted baby. I just couldn’t stop crying.”

Through sobs and sniffles, Rachel told the woman how she had lost a LIFE Band in the very same parking lot, not many months ago.

“I told her the meaning behind the band and what the word LIFE on the band actually meant.”

Now both women were crying, with tears of joy and gratitude streaming down their faces.

Through her sobs, the woman managed to whisper to Rachel: “Thank you. If you hadn’t lost this bracelet, I wouldn’t have my beautiful baby next to me.”

Lou Engle, preacher and co-founder of The Call, related Rachel’s amazing story during a sermon at Bethel Church in Redding, California a week and a half ago.

“God is in the business of rescuing life,” he proclaimed to an enthusiastic crowd. “I tell you, nothing has encouraged me like [this story] in this whole movement.”

Engle mentioned that he loves telling Rachel’s story because it gives him faith to keep praying the prayer of intercession connected to the LIFE Band: “Jesus, I plead your blood over my sins and the sins of my nation. God, end abortion and send revival to America.”

Matt Lockett, director of Bound4LIFE, which makes and distributes the LIFE Bands, told LifeSiteNews that Rachel’s testimony is “extraordinary” since it exemplifies how God can “triumph” through a humble piece of rubber.

Carrie Konig, a mother of five who brought Rachel’s story to the attention of LifeSiteNews, pointed out that “God can use anything, even a red bracelet with the word LIFE on it, to save an unborn baby from being aborted.”

Konig said that Rachel’s story dispels criticism that the red LIFE Tape and the LIFE Bands are useless gimmicks in the fight against abortion.

“This testimony has assured me that, as God’s word says, “He uses the foolish things of this world to confound the wise (1 Cor. 1:27).”

Rachel says that she will “forever remember” the woman with her precious little daughter.

“Losing that Life Band was probably the best thing that ever happened to me. Ultimately, it was the best thing that happened to this mother and her baby girl who is alive because God intervened in a parking lot one night.”

Helium and Barbiturates Contribute to Drug Death Statistics
Inert gas helium and barbiturates led to more deaths last year than ecstasy, cannabis, mephedrone and GHB, figures show

The inert gas helium and barbiturate drugs contributed to more deaths last year than ecstasy, cannabis, mephedrone and GHB, official figures show.

According to Office for National Statistics data released on Wednesday, the number of deaths mentioning barbiturates increased from six in 2007 to 37 in 2011, the highest number since 1996, despite the number of prescriptions for barbiturates more than halving over this period.

Over the same period, deaths involving helium have risen from two to 42. By comparison there were just seven cannabis-related deaths last year while ecstasy was responsible for 13 deaths. Cocaine claimed the lives of 112 people.

Almost all of those who died taking barbiturate and helium were recorded as suicides. Helium in particular has seen a steep rise in its use. Between 1993 and 2007 just 18 people died using the gas. The gas has become a feature of both literature and public policy debate in the last 20 years as the row over right-to-die has become more intense.

Overall, there were 1,772 male and 880 female drug poisoning deaths – involving both legal and illegal drugs – in 2011, a 6% decrease since 2010 for males and a 3% increase for females.

Over half of all the deaths related to drug poisoning involved opiates. In 2011 heroin or morphine, were involved in 596 deaths.

However, there has been a fall in deaths involving heroin or another opiate. For men the mortality rate has fallen sharply in the last two years, down from 27.9 deaths per million population in 2009 to 17.1 in 2011. This is a 39% fall and is the lowest rate since 1997.

The decrease in deaths has many reasons but ONS points to evidence of a "heroin drought" in the UK, "with shortages in the availability of heroin continuing in some areas in 2011-12" with a result that the street purity of opiates sold has dropped.

Despite fears from drug workers that the low purity levels would lead to overdoses, the reduced supply seems to have led to less demand.

Results from the British Crime Survey, the ONS says, suggest there was a significant decline in the proportion of 16-to-59-year-olds reporting use of heroin in the last month between 2009-10 and 2010-11. This is backed up by evidence from the NHS's National Treatment Agency for Substance Misuse which said that the number of adults newly entering treatment for heroin and crack use has fallen by 15% in two years.

"[The data] suggests that this decline is probably due to reduced demand rather than any shortfall in services. These factors may explain the decline in deaths involving heroin/morphine that has been seen over the last couple of years," said the ONS.

Tattoo-Associated Nontuberculous Mycobacterial Skin Infections — Multiple States, 2011–2012

Permanent tattoos have become increasingly common, with 21% of adults in the United States reporting having at least one tattoo (1). On rare occasions, outbreaks of nontuberculous mycobacterial (NTM) skin infections have been reported after tattooing (2,3). In January 2012, public health officials in New York received reports of Mycobacterium chelonae skin infections in 14 New York residents who received tattoos during September–December 2011. All infections were associated with use of the same nationally distributed, prediluted gray ink manufactured by company A. CDC disseminated an Epi-X public health alert to identify additional tattoo-associated NTM skin infections; previously identified cases were reported from three states (Washington, Iowa, and Colorado).

Public health investigations by CDC, state and local health departments, and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) found NTM contamination in tattoo inks used in two of five identified clusters. All infected persons were exposed to one of four different brands of ink. NTM contamination of inks can occur during the manufacturing process as a result of using contaminated ingredients or poor manufacturing practices, or when inks are diluted with nonsterile water by tattoo artists. No specific FDA regulatory requirement explicitly provides that tattoo inks must be sterile. However, CDC recommends that ink manufacturers ensure ink is sterile and that tattoo artists avoid contamination of ink through dilution with nonsterile water. Consumers also should be aware of the health risks associated with getting an intradermal tattoo…

Because tattoo inks are injected intradermally, CDC recommends that ink manufacturers be held to higher product safety standards, which should include production of sterile inks. In addition, tattoo artists should 1) avoid using products not intended for use in tattooing; 2) avoid ink dilution before tattooing, and if dilution is needed, use only sterile water; 3) avoid use of nonsterile water to rinse equipment (e.g., needles) during tattoo placement; and 4) follow aseptic techniques during tattooing (e.g., hand hygiene and use of disposable gloves).

To reduce their risk for infection, consumers should 1) use tattoo parlors registered by local jurisdictions; 2) request inks that are manufactured specifically for tattoos; 3) ensure that tattoo artists follow appropriate hygienic practices; 4) be aware of the potential for infection following tattooing, and seek medical advice if persistent skin problems occur; and 5) notify the tattoo artist and FDA's MedWatch program* if they experience an adverse event.

Mom Who Refused Cancer Treatment to Save Unborn Baby Recovers

From England comes a miraculous story of a courageous mother, 41-year-old Jo, who discovered a lump on her breast days after finding out she was pregnant with first child. Powell refused to start treatment until later in her pregnancy so she would not harm or kill her unborn child.

In similar cases, as several studies now show, there is no need for women to destroy the life of their unborn child to save their own. http://www.lifenews.com/2012/08/29/mom-who-refused-cancer-treatment-to-save-unborn-baby-recovers/

Romney: “As President I will Protect the Sanctity of Human Life”

Mitt Romney made the pledge Thursday night during his GOP presidential nomination acceptance speech that pro-life Americans wanted to hear. Romney not only promised he would be a pro-life president but said he would affirm the freedom of religion that has been under attack by the Obama pro-abortion HHS mandate.

“As president, I will protect the sanctity of life. I will honor the institution of marriage. And I will guarantee America’s first liberty: the freedom of religion,” he said.

During the speech, Romney hit back at the false War on Women attack launched by Democrats and abortion activists.

Woman Has Buried 4,000 Babies Dying From Abortion or Infanticide

Pham Thi Cuong, 74, is doing what so many in Vietnam refuse to do — care for little babies who die before birth in abortions. A new story profiles her work, finding and burying more than 4,000 unwanted babies who have been killed.

From the story: Pham Thi Cuong, 74, whose hair is silver and who has trouble breathing, pedals around ten kilometers each day on her bicycle searching for disregarded embryos from abortion procedures, and in some cases, the little bodies of babies who had been born and abandoned. http://www.lifenews.com/2012/08/29/woman-has-buried-4000-babies-dying-from-abortion-infanticide/

University Vindicates Dr. Mark Regnerus; His Study Exposing Homosexual vs. Heterosexual Parenting Stands

The University of Texas at Austin announced Wednesday that sociologist Regnerus, who has been excoriated by some in the media over a study showing that parents' homosexual relationships can have negative effects on children, is innocent of academic misconduct.

Dr. Mark Regnerus made headlines in June, when his study was published in the widely respected journal Social Science Research.

According to his findings, children raised by homosexual parents are more likely than those raised by married heterosexual parents to suffer from poor impulse control, depression and suicidal thoughts, require mental health therapy; identify themselves as homosexual; choose cohabitation; be unfaithful to partners; contract sexually transmitted diseases; be sexually molested; have lower income levels; drink to get drunk; and smoke tobacco and marijuana.

As a result, an activist blogger accused Regnerus of academic fraud, demanding in July that the university release all his research material and emails with fellow sociologists…

Full Text of Strongly Pro-Life GOP Abortion Platform Released

The full text of the draft of the Republican Party platform on abortion has been released and the plank shows the Republican Party has retained its strongly pro-woman, pro-life position.

CNN obtained the full text from its sources:

THE SANCTITY AND DIGNITY OF HUMAN LIFE

Faithful to the “self-evident” truths enshrined in the Declaration of Independence, we assert the sanctity of human life and affirm that the unborn child has a fundamental individual right to life which cannot be infringed. We support a human life amendment to the Constitution and endorse legislation to make clear that the Fourteenth Amendment’s protections apply to unborn children. We oppose using public revenues to promote or perform abortion or fund organizations which perform or advocate it and will not fund or subsidize health care which includes abortion coverage. We support the appointment of judges who respect traditional family values and the sanctity of innocent human life. We oppose the non-consensual withholding or withdrawal of care or treatment, including food and water, from people with disabilities, including newborns, as well as the elderly and infirm, just as we oppose active and passive euthanasia and assisted suicide.

Republican leadership has led the effort to prohibit the barbaric practice of partial birth abortion, permitted States to extend health care coverage to children before birth. We urge Congress to strengthen the Born Alive Infant Protection Act by exacting appropriate civil and criminal penalties to health care providers who fail to provide treatment and care to an infant who survives and abortion, including early induction delivery where the death of the infant is intended. We call for legislation to ban sex-selective abortions – gender discrimination in its most lethal form – and to protect from abortion unborn children who are capable of feeling pain; and we applaud U.S. House Republicans for leading the effort to protect the lives of pain-capable unborn children in the District of Columbia. We call for a revision of federal law 42 U.S.C. 289.92 to bar the use of body parts from aborted fetuses for research. We support and applaud adult stem cell research to develop lifesaving therapies, and we oppose the killing of embryos for their stem cells. We oppose federal funding of embryonic stem cell research.

We also salute the many states that have passed laws for informed consent, mandatory waiting periods prior to an abortion, and health protective clinic regulation. We seek to protect young girls from exploitation through a parental consent requirement; and we affirm our moral obligation to assist, rather than penalize, women challenged by an unplanned pregnancy. We salute those who provide them with counseling and adoption alternatives and empower them to choose live, and we take comfort in the tremendous increase in adoptions that has followed Republican legislative initiatives.

Republicans adopted the platform this week in a platform committee and it must be accepted by delegates to the convention next week to be finalized. Not one member of the platform committee submitted any weakening amendments, according to Politico.

The Republican National Committee appears to be headed towards another pro-life platform, which has been pro-life since 1980, when the Republican Party adopted a position supporting the Human Life Amendment. The platform stood in stark contrast to the pro-abortion plank Democrats approved.

James Bopp, Co-chairman of the Subcommittee on Restoring Constitutional Government for the Republican National Committee, emailed LifeNews the background of the pro-life position:

"Since 1980, the Republican Party Platform has endorsed the adoption of “a Human Life Amendment” to protect unborn life and to reverse Roe v. Wade. Carl Anderson, now head of the Knights of Columbus of the U.S., and I drafted this plank, and it has remained the same and in the platform since then. In addition, I was Co-Chairman of the Subcommittee on Restoring Constitutional Government of the Platform Committee which readopted this platform plank this year.

"In 1980, there were dozens of different versions of a Human Life Am

endment then pending in Congress. The approaches included a state’s rights version, one reversing the right to abortion, one endorsing restoring personhood, one permitting abortion only to save the life of the mother and some allowing abortion in instances of rape and incest.
"The Republican Party plank endorsing a Human Life Amendment does not take a position on which version of a Human Life Amendment should eventually be adopted. We leave that decision to Congress and the people of the United States at that time. Thus, we do not take a position on which exceptions should be included in a Human Life Amendment."

On the other hand, the Democratic National Committee has officially rejected an effort by pro-life Democrats to get the party to include [exceptions] in its platform, that calls for keeping unlimited abortions legal and paid for at taxpayer expense.

Kristen Day, executive director of Democrats For Life of America, says the platform panel refuses to acknowledge any difference of opinion on abortion within the Democratic Party.

“For the good of the Democratic Party, we will continue to advocate that the platform language should reflect the true diversity of views within the Democratic Party,” said Kristen Day, Executive Director of Democrats For Life of America. “Our message is simple: If you are pro-life and a Democrat, you can make a difference, thus the case for recognition. Inclusion can make a critical difference in this fall’s election.”

“If we are going to increase our members and win the majority, we must recognize the contributions of pro-life Democrats within our party and the diverse position of Democrats on the issue of abortion,” said Day.

According to Day, almost one-third of all Democrats self-identify as pro-life.  In the 2008 Election, about one-quarter of Obama’s supporters self-identified as pro-life.

The proposed Republican platform language is very similar to the 2008 GOP platform, which contained strong pro-life statements of position on abortion.

“Faithful to the first guarantee of the Declaration of Independence, we assert the inherent dignity and sanctity of all human life and affirm that the unborn child has a fundamental individual right to life which cannot be infringed,” the final 2008 GOP platform said. “We support a human life amendment to the Constitution, and we endorse legislation to make clear that the Fourteenth Amendment’s protections apply to unborn children,” it added.

Republicans Draft Strong Pro-Life Platform Before National Convention

As political animals from both major parties prepare for their national conventions over the next two weeks, platform committees are adopting language that defines the differences between their respective voter bases.

According to tentative language obtained by CNN Monday, the Republican Party will consider a plank calling for an end to legalized abortion — with an exception for the life of the mother — at its national convention next week in Tampa, Fla. That’s similar to planks the party adopted in 2000, 2004 and 2008.

Meanwhile, the Democratic Party Platform Committee recently drafted an entirely new plank — one that calls for same-sex marriage to be legalized nationwide, and for the longstanding federal law defining marriage as the union of one man and one woman to be repealed.

That language will be considered at the Democratic National Convention to be held in Charlotte, N.C., Sept. 4-6. The Republican National Convention takes place Aug. 27-30.

“We have seen, in 2012, a genuine polarization,” noted Tim Goeglein, Focus on the Family’s vice president for external relations. “Even though we have historically large numbers of people who call themselves independent, when they actually vote, they do so overwhelmingly for either Democrats or Republicans. But there is the 5 to 8 percent of people who genuinely are still undecided. In a country of 313 million people, that is potentially a very large number of votes.”

If Republicans adopt the draft platform, the party will endorse an amendment to the U.S. Constitution making it clear that preborn children have “a fundamental individual right to life which cannot be infringed.” Other planks include opposition to federal funding for embryonic stem cell research, support for the use of ultrasounds and full disclosure about fetal development before abortions, as well as support for state-enforced abortion clinic regulations.

That language reflects the fact, Goeglein said, “that the majority of Americans for the first time since Roe v. Wade, are pro-life.”

“One party will say it is pro-life from conception to natural death, that everyone should be welcomed into the world and protected by the law,” he added. “The other will say that in one form or the other, abortion should be legal from conception all the way up through the ninth month of pregnancy. That is as large of a bright line as is possible. And on those two issues, the parties are as divided and distinct as they’ve ever been.”

As a result, Hispanics will be a key voting bloc to watch in November: Though they tend to favor a larger, more activist federal government, they also tend to favor pro-life legislation and marriage, Goeglein said.

Full GOP Pro-Life Platform strongly Opposes Abortion and Euthanasia

The Republican Party is continuing to hammer out its platform in advance of next week’s convention in Tampa, but the full pro-life plank as it now stands presents a robust support of human life.

The GOP platform’s plank on “The Sanctity and Dignity of Human Life,” which has yet to be finalized, endorses a constitutional Right to Life amendment, opposes taxpayer funding of abortion, favors stronger regulations on abortion providers, and strongly rejects assisted suicide and euthanasia.

“We oppose the non-consensual withholding or withdrawal of care or treatment, including food and water, from people with disabilities, including newborns, as well as the elderly and infirm, just as we oppose active and passive euthanasia and assisted suicide,” the platform reads.

The platform specifically addresses sex-selective abortion—“gender discrimination in its most lethal form”—and abortions performed on unborn children capable of feeling pain.

The party, which will nominate the Romney-Ryan ticket next week, has also expressed its continued advocacy for parental consent, informed patient consent, waiting periods, and abortion clinic regulation, as well as promoting adoption as an alternative.

It also pledges to “strengthen the Born Alive Infant Protection Act by exacting appropriate civil and criminal penalties to health care providers who fail to provide treatment and care to an infant who survives an abortion,” a stance intended to draw attention to the fact that Barack Obama opposed born alive infant protections as an Illinois state senator.

The platform also opposes federal funding of embryonic stem cell research, breaking with the position of former President George W. Bush. One of the 44th president’s first actions in office was to extend public revenues tor experimentation with certain lines of “discarded” embryonic stem cells.

Despite saturation media coverage to the con

trary, the platform’s support for a human life amendment does not necessarily mean it bans abortions in the case of rape or incest.

James Bopp, who drafted the original language in 1980, told The Washington Post some versions of the amendment would grant personhood rights, including all the protections of the 14th Amendment, to all unborn children; others include various exemptions, including for rape and incest.

Bopp, who now co-chairs the Republican Party’s platform Subcommittee on Restoring Constitutional Government, said, “We want the Constitution to provide legal protection to the unborn. But there’s no way the Republican Party is going to be able to sort through dozens of versions of what that means legislatively, and get behind one.”

Mitt Romney has made clear he believes in the rape and incest exceptions since his pivot on the abortion issue.

CNN, which obtained the full platform language, reports, “The language will not be official until it’s ratified by convention delegates next week, but it’s unlikely to undergo any changes before then.”

The full plank reads as follows:

GOP Platform Committee Rebuffs Attempts to Weaken Marriage Stance

Republicans working to craft the party’s platform before the national convention gets under way next week rejected two proposals on Tuesday which would have changed the GOP’s position on marriage.

Rhode Island Delegate Barbara Fenton proposed replacing the plank endorsing marriage as the union of one man and one woman with language advocating civil unions for both same-sex and heterosexual couples.

“That was discussed and briefly debated,” said Gregg Keller, executive director of the American Conservative Union. “That went down pretty decisively, however. The argument that was generally advanced by the people pushing the proposal was the separation of church and state, and the idea that government should not be ‘meddling’ in these institutions — that they should just get out of it altogether.”

Nevada Delegate Pat Kerby proposed an amendment which would add support for same-sex civil unions to the party’s support for the definition of marriage as the union of one man and one woman.

“We can take this stance and still keep our commitment to the institution of marriage,” Kerby said. His proposal also was quickly voted down.

Meanwhile, the closest vote of the day concerned language supporting abstinence education in public schools. It was one of the few times the platform committee needed to record a tally instead of using a voice vote, Keller said.

Ultimately, the resolution passed 41-35.

“I think there was some concern in the room that as conservatives and Republicans, we believe in local control of education — that people on the ground, parents and school boards, are the best arbiters of the education their children receive,” he explained. “The concern was that we say we believe in local control, but here we are dictating, potentially from afar, the kind of education children on the ground will be receiving. There was a concern from a member in Alabama who said there are boys and girls in their teenage years that are sexually active. This particular member thought that is a fact of life, and we were faced with two options: We could either try to help children who are sexually active by means of giving them schooling in STDs, contraception and the like, or we could not give them some of the tools this member thinks they believe they need because they are sexually active.”

Despite the debate, the overall platform is resoundingly conservative. The language drafted will go through an editing phase before the Republican National Convention begins on Aug. 27.

“People were really pleased about where the document started,” Keller said, “and even more pleased about where it is today in terms of protecting conservative values.”

Planned Parenthood Cancer Screening Initiative a Farce

Planned Parenthood Federation of America and various affiliates have released scads of stories over the past week touting a new breast cancer initiative. The $3 million it says will fund the initiative is the amount Planned Parenthood claims it raised in four days in response to the Susan G. Komen Foundation's quickly-rescinded announcement that it would stop funding the abortion giant.

So, what about this huge investment of $3 million Cecile Richards says she is earmarking for breast cancer screening and education? To put it in perspective, Planned Parenthood's total income in 2010 was $1.04 BILLION. The three million dollars it says it will commit to the breast cancer initiative is nine-tenths of one percent of its total annual income.[29 Aug 12, ALL STOPP Report, STOPP.ORG]

GETTING WORDS RIGHT: POSSIBLE RECIPE FOR SUCCESS

The right use of language is a key factor in winning the battle to protect human life and uphold human dignity.

By making others more aware of the importance of a precise choice of words, one group believes it is possible to turn everyday conversations into opportunities to subtly convey the pro-life message — perhaps the most important one being that pre-born babies are people, too.

It is a common mistake to fall into the habit of depersonalizing the unborn child by saying, "When is it due?" or "It has its own unique set of DNA". The pronoun "it" tends to mean a "thing" and is a word that implies the baby is less than human.

Another language concern is the seemingly acceptable phrase "human life begins at conception", at least in the United States, because the word "conception" plays into the hands of American pro-abortion organizations and pharmaceutical companies due to an action taken by the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists in 1965, when it changed the definition of 'conception' to refer to 'implantation', NOT 'fertilization'.

Fertilization refers to the union of the sperm and egg; implantation refers to a later process by which the human embryo implants in his or her mother's uterus (womb).

This definition change — which was not made public — meant that the ACOG, pharmaceutical companies, and all 'contraceptive' and abortion advocates could — and did — erroneously assure the public that 'contraceptive' birth control does not kill tiny unborn children because, by this redefinition, pregnancy does not begin until implantation.

The 6-10 days between fertilization and implantation when the tiny embryo grows to about 100 cells and moves toward the uterus are just ignored in this deadly spin…

"Now our laws have been thus influenced, so any time conception is used in a pro-life law, what the pro-lifer intends by that word is NOT its actual interpretation" notes. Conception is no longer an effective word for us."
