Study Shows People in “Vegetative” State Were Incorrectly Diagnosed
There is more encouraging news coming out of Canada regarding the very unscientific persistent vegetative state (PVS) diagnosis. Once again there has been a study regarding three people who were incorrectly thought to be in a PVS.

Why is this so important? One reason is that the PVS diagnosis can be used as a motive to kill a person with a brain injury, as it was in my sister, Terri Schiavo’s case. This is not the first time this type of testing has taken place with similar types of results.

Public Hospitals that Deliver Babies Must Provide Abortions, Even if Owned by Christians: Wash AG

[Comment: Abortion, assisted suicide, etc.? Do any of these people believe in even the existence of conscious rights? N. Valko RN]

Public hospitals that receive  funds to deliver babies must also provide abortion and contraception, even if they are absorbed by any Christian health care providers, according to a legal opinion delivered Wednesday by Washington State Attorney General Bob Ferguson.“Public hospital districts may not administer or fund programs to provide 'maternity care benefits, services, or information to women' without also making provision for” contraception and for women “to voluntarily terminate their pregnancies,” Ferguson wrote.

The opinion came after Democratic State Senator Kevin Ranker of Orcas Island raised concerns about public hospitals potentially merging with Catholic health care providers who oppose abortion, contraception, and physician-assisted suicide.

The USCCB has issued Ethical and Religious Directives forbiding faithful Catholics from engaging in such practices. The First Amendment protects conscience rights. However, Ferguson wrote that in 1991 Washington state voters passed Initiative 120, which stated, “Every individual has the fundamental right to choose or refuse birth control,” and “to choose or refuse to have an abortion.”

The attorney general ruled that since public hospital districts represent the state, they cannot “discriminate against the exercise of these rights,” nor can organizations that absorb them – even if such procedures violate their religion.

Ferguson did not say whether Catholic hospitals must provide such procedures or if they could contract with other providers. However, he said hospitals could avoid a conflict by refusing to provide maternity care.

With a rise of public hospitals becoming “allied” with Catholic health care providers, the state chapter of the ACLU called on the state to insure that hospitals provide all “lawful medical care, including reproductive health services, end-of-life services, and care for LBGTQ families, without restrictions based on religious doctrine.”

The group complained:

When Swedish Medical Center (secular) in Seattle affiliated with Providence Health & Services (religious), it stopped performing elective abortions.

When Highline Medical Center (secular) in south King County affiliated with Franciscan Health System (religious), it prohibited information about and referrals for aid-in-dying and restricted a wide range of reproductive health services, including contraception, tubal ligations, and elective abortions.

After San Juan County Public Hospital District affiliated with PeaceHealth (religious) for the construction and operation of a new hospital in Friday Harbor, PeaceHealth imposed restrictions on an OBGYN who formerly could freely counsel and serve women, including schedule tubal ligations and abortions.

In a letter to the ACLU, Democratic Governor Jay Inslee wrote that, while he had not heard of anyone being denied any procedure as a result of Catholics exercising their faith, he was “very concerned for the potential of these” mergers “to lead to restrictions in constitutionally protected care for Washingtonians.”

“We trust the foregoing will be useful to you,” Ferguson concluded his analysis on Wednesday.

Ferguson is also suing elderly Christian florist Barronelle Stutzman for refusing to provide flowers to a same-sex “marriage.”

“I fully expect all public hospital districts to comply with this opinion,” he said while unveiling the opinion, according to the Seattle Post-Intelligencer.

The decision is not t

he first time state lawmakers have tried to link the right to life with the right to an abortion.

The ruling echoes the debate over the “Reproductive Parity Act,” which would have forced any insurance company that offers prenatal coverage to also pay for elective abortions. The bill passed the House but died in the state Senate this spring.

Human Life of Washington warned in an e-mail the bill would lead to “the taking of human life in violation of conscience for the first time in the history of our nation.”

Peter Sartain of Seattle called the bill “utterly indefensible” and “a grave infringement on the rights of conscience.”

Americans United for Life President and CEO Charmaine Yoest agreed, “Clearly, Big Abortion’s agenda has effectively moved from ‘choice’ to coercion as they focus their legislative efforts on forcing Americans – including those in the health insurance industry – to acquiesce to their radical agenda or face severe consequences.”

Lawmakers in Pontiac, MI, Laugh at Woman Conceived in Rape, Want Resolution Supporting Her Abortion

Rebecca Kiessling knows what it’s like to be targeted by abortion. She is one of the rare people to escape an abortion after her birthmother became pregnant following a sexual assault.

But Kiessling was targeted more directly today when she testified before local lawmakers in support of a pro-life resolution. Laughing at her story of how she survived an abortion that too frequently claims the lives of unborn children conceived in rape, they passed a resolution supporting abortions in cases of rape or incest as an “in your face” gesture.

As Kiessling shares her story:

This morning, I testified before the Oakland County Commissioners in Pontiac, MI on a resolution to make October 2013 “Respect Life” month. Two weeks ago, after I testified at a committee hearing, a female Democrat from Pontiac, MI asked to be added as a sponsor! It was unexpected and we were all pleased. However, the rest of the Democrats in the County Commission were very upset by this resolution and so, she was a no-show today so that she wouldn’t be in a position of having to vote against her caucus.

Upon my arrival, I was immediately told by the resolution’s sponsor — Republican Jim Runestad, that the five Democrats present had an amendment to propose — to affirm that a woman has a right to an abortion. The Commissioners Chair ruled that it was not germane the resolution at hand, which merely makes October 2013 Respect Life month and encourages “all citizens to celebrate the value of human life and those who protect it every day.” With a 13-5 vote, the Commissioners upheld the Chair’s ruling.

During public statements on the resolution, three of us gave statements in support of the resolution — me, Chris Zielinski — the field representative from Right to Life of Michigan, and Peter Riccardo — the Director of Mother & Unborn Baby Care in Southfield. I introduced myself and shared my story of having been conceived in rape and nearly aborted at two back-alley abortions, but spared because I was legally protected in Michigan at the time.

Unlike prior experiences I’ve had in testifying before legislatures — where hearts and minds were changed on the issue, in response, the pro-abort Democrats introduced a new amendment: “BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Oakland County Board of Commissioners believe that women who are raped or victims of incest should not be forced by their government to carry out a pregnancy.” Laughing amongst each other, this was an in-your-face resolution to issue the death penalty to me, and to those who are similarly-situated, but they were gloating that they introduced it in front of me.

Well, once again, the Chair ruled that the proposed Amendment was not germane to the Resolution and the Commissioners voted 13-5 in support of the Chair’s ruling on it. The final vote in support of the Resolution was 14-5. The five Democrats were McGillivray, Zack, Woodward, Quarles and Gershenson. Woodward gave a speech before the final vote, vowing to fight with all of his being should anyone ever try to take away his two young daughters’ “right” to an abortion, declaring, “I will meet you in the back alley!”

This resolution didn’t have any teeth to it — it was symbolic, to try to begin to create a culture of life in our County, but the cruel treatment of the abortion supporters was at a peak. They had a face to the issue — but they couldn’t wait to issue the death penalty. And that’s how they show how much they “care” about women like me.

Planned Parenthood: $4 Billion in Tax Funding as 20% of Its Affiliates Committed Fraud

A Congressional agency will investigate the Planned Parenthood abortion business and look into its finances. A top pro-life attorney says it is much needed because Planned Parenthood has received billions in taxpayer funding at the same time its affiliates have engaged in fraud.

The Government Accountability Office’s (GAO), a Congressional agency, has indicated it will conduct an investigation of the Planned Parenthood abortion, business, which was recently busted for millions of dollars of Medicaid fraud in Texas.

Scandals Contribute to a Record Number of Planned Parenthood Office Closures

Planned Parenthood offices across the nation have closed this year at a record rate, according to data compiled by Operation Rescue. At least 24 Planned Parenthood sites have closed in so far in 2013. This number includes 3 surgical abortion centers, 3 sites that dispensed abortion pills, and 19 offices that referred for abortions.

"Abortion numbers are down so there is less demand for Planned Parenthood. Couple that with recent scandals involving Planned Parenthood that have resulted increased disapproval of their abortion business and it's easy to see why these clinics are closing on such a large scale," said Troy Newman, President of Operation Rescue. "While Planned Parenthood officials like to portray these closings as the end of the world for women, in reality, there are plenty of other competent health care providers who are not in business to sell them abortions that stand at the ready to assist women."

Operation Rescue documented the stated reasons for many of the closures.
In February, five clinics in New York severed tie

s with Planned Parenthood rather than include the practice of abortion after the national organization mandated that all affiliates provide abortions in at least one of their facilities.

In Texas, at least one Planned Parenthood abortion clinic in Midland has closed due to its inability to meet new health and safety standards for abortion businesses.

Other shop closed due to the defunding of Planned Parenthood organizations by states, general funding cuts, decline in business, and a lack of physicians willing to do abortions.

Planned Parenthood scandals have taken a public relations toll and have led to efforts to defund the abortion giant. Recently, the Planned Parenthood has been placed under investigation by the Governmental Accounting Office, which is looking into widespread allegations of financial malfeasance.

Other abuse-related problems have been exposed in recent months, including:

    • Thirty-one documented medical emergencies requiring emergency transport to hospitals from Planned Parenthood clinics since 2012.
    • Ohio Right to Life’s documentation of 42 serious complications to the abortion pill since 2011, 32 of which occurred at Ohio Planned Parenthood clinics.
    • The death of abortion patient Tonya Reaves at a Chicago Planned Parenthood clinic, which allowed to hemorrhage for 5½ hours before calling for emergency help.
    • Planned Parenthood agreed to pay $4.3 million to settle a federal civil suit charging that it fraudulently billed Medicaid for women’s health services provided by some of its Texas clinics from 2003 to 2009.
    • Planned Parenthood of Illinois settled a case of Medicaid fraud committed its medical director, abortionist Caroline Hoke, for $367,000.
    • Whistleblower suits filed by former Planned Parenthood employees remain pending in California, Texas, and Iowa that allege massive billing fraud.
    • Closure of the entire Planned Parenthood Golden Gate affiliate for financial malfeasance.
    • The widespread non-reporting of child sex abuse.
    • The webcam abortion pill scam in Iowa that has prompted Federal legislation as well as new laws banning the dangerous practice in at least 11 states. The Iowa Board of Medicine is currently revamping regulations to disallow the process.
    • The documentation by Life Dynamics, Inc. that Planned Parenthood specifically targets minority communities, especially African-Americans, for abortion.

In spite of all Planned Parenthood’s scandalous behavior, the abortion-promoting Obama Administration announced last week that it has awarded over $655,000 in taxpayer grants to three Planned Parenthood affiliates to act as “navigators,” assisting the public in subscribing to Obamacare…

Planned Parenthood Getting $214,000 in Obamacare Funds Is Accused of Medicaid Fraud

Planned Parenthood of the Heartland is one of four affiliates of the Planned Parenthood abortion business to have received hundreds of thousands of dollars in funds to promote Obamacare. However, the abortion business faces accusations of massive Medicaid fraud.

One of the four Planned Parenthood abortion business affiliates to get taxpayer funding from Obamacare was accused of breaking state laws to sell abortion drugs in New Hampshire.

As LifeNews reported, three more local affiliates of the Planned Parenthood abortion business are getting hundreds of thousands of dollars in taxpayer funding from the federal government to promote Obamacare. Among the grants listed were $295,604 for Planned Parenthood of Montana; $214,427 for Planned Parenthood of the Heartland; and $145,161 for Planned Parenthood of Northern New England. http://www.lifenews.com/2013/08/16/planned-parenthood-getting-214000-in-obamacare-funds-accused-of-medicaid-fraud/
