Baby-Saving Gadgets & Apps for Life

Smartphones and tablets are helping to keep babies away from abortionists.

PRO-LIFE ON THE GO: Online for Life, My Baby’s Beat, and My Pregnancy Today…

Sonograms showing life inside the womb are not the only area where technology has allied with the pro-life movement.

Smartphones and tablets are joining the cause thanks to a new array of pregnancy apps. These apps show images of fetal development and help women connect to their little ones, even allowing them to hear the baby’s heartbeat.

One pro-life group has created an app that alerts people of good will when a woman walks into the pregnancy center in their area and asks them to pray. While the pregnancy apps don’t overtly promote life, they inadvertently do so by revealing to mothers what’s going on inside their bodies.

'My Pregnancy Today', a free app from BabyCenter, asks users to enter their baby’s due date and creates a countdown, showing schematic drawings of the baby each week and videos describing the baby’s growth in the womb. It describes what mothers should expect to feel each week of the pregnancy.

Women's Protection Project

How does Big Abortion keep getting away with pretending that abortion is good for women?

The facts grow more compelling every year:

– Abortion not only ends innocent lives, it exposes mothers to a wide range of documented physical and emotional harm
– Readily-available abortions have been used by sexual predators to cover their crimes
– Records show that since 2009, more than one in every ten abortion clinics in the nation have faced investigations, criminal charges, administrative complaints, civil lawsuits, or been cited for violating state laws governing the operation of abortion clinics

It’s obvious that there is no such thing as a “safe” abortion. Yet Big Abortion has been successfully suppressing these facts from the American people to preserve their business model.

Enough is enough. Help Educate the Public & Change the Law with The Women's Protection Project.
Together we can hasten the day when Roe v. Wade is overturned!
http://www.aul.org/womens-protection-project/

The new Women's Protection Project (WPP) from Americans United for Life is a bold plan to:

    – dismantle Big Abortion’s rapacious business model through life-saving regulations,
    – ensure that abortion's harm to maternal health is a key consideration in the next abortion case before the Supreme Court, and
    – use the media to expose what’s really going on in our nation's abortion businesses.

The Supreme Court's primary rationale for affirming Roe v. Wade is the myth that ab

ortion is good for women and beneficial to women's health. Thanks to the tireless efforts of Big Abortion to cover up how abortion harms women physically and emotionally, millions of Americans still believe this myth.

The WPP is the only plan which directly attacks this “reliance interest” rationale. Through seven pieces of expertly crafted AUL model legislation, we will use the courts to demonstrate Big Abortion’s contempt for the women harmed in their quest for profit. Through an intensive nationwide campaign of social media and paid advertising, we will also expose the truth about abortion and create a groundswell of support for life-affirming, life-saving legislation.

The WPP will move forward as the legal “blueprint” for protecting women and their children from a largely unregulated, unrestricted, and unrepentant abortion industry — http://www.aul.org/womens-protection-project/

#thegenerationthatWILL (What Young People Are Saying About the March for Life!)

Talk to anyone who went to the March for Life this year, and they will all tell you the same thing: "It was cold" is a gross understatement. It was freezing. Below freezing. The morning of the March, the wind was actually cold enough to warrant a frostbite warning from the weather service.

Nonetheless, at 11:15 AM, with about fifty youth and a dedicated group of clergy and chaperones, CEC For Life began the subzero trek from our hotel on Capitol Hill to the Supreme Court steps for our annual Liturgy for the Preborn at the Time of Death, led by Fr. Terry Gensemer.

Huddled together before the building wherein nine Supreme Court justices stripped away the rights of the preborn, we joined in song and prayer for those who have died in the abortion holocaust, beseeching God to care for the preborn in death and to put an end to the horrific violence that is abortion.

Looking around on that sidewalk you would have seen and heard all sorts of things — young people bowing their heads in prayer, words of encouragement from Bishop Mike Davidson and Bishop Greg Ortiz, mothers hugging their smallest children in an attempt to keep them warm. Brightly colored hats, thick scarves, and pieces of red duct tape on bags and jackets with "LIFE" written in black ink.

You would have seen the police officers pacing across the steps, the media gathering clips for future stories, and other pro-lifers gathered in prayer. One thing you would not have seen, however, is the usual group of hostile abortion advocates — those champions for "choice" — who have spent past years hanging around our vigil to chant and argue and wave signs that read nonsensical things like: "Keep your rosaries off my ovaries."

It would seem that a -2 degree wind chill reaches beyond such advocates' devotion — that reproductive rights are only worth fighting for when conditions are agreeable. It makes sense, of course, as abortion focuses solely on serving the self, not sacrificing for others. However, abortion advocates should have thought twice before not showing up, because their absence spoke volumes to youth attending the March. (The same youth, by the way, that will grow into the men and women who will run this country in the years to come.)

One young man, Caleb Northwood of Church of the Reconciliation in Maryland, observed:

"This year really separated the passionate from the 'fair weather' protesters. Even though it was 5 degrees in DC, the prolife attendance was tremendous…This really shows how passionate we are to go out and be a voice for the voiceless, even when it is below freezing. I thought this was a powerful year for the March for Life, and that the record breaking cold happened for a reason."

The day before the March, these same youth also braved the cold, plus plenty of snowfall, to participate in a Memorial Die-In in front of the White House. Youth lay on the cold, wet ground, while others covered them with red cloth, each representing a million preborn children killed by abortion. Not only did they lay down in solidarity to bring dignity to their preborn brothers and sisters, they did so without a single complaint.

Abortion advocates, I encourage you to take notice: these young people are exactly why you are going to lose. God hasn't just raised a generation that will abolish abortion; He has raised a generation that simply will. Young people like Caleb Northwood are called to fight, but, more to the heart of it, they are willing to fight. Willing to show up. Willing to sacrifice. Willing to ignore the difficult circumstances and push through. They are servants, and foot soldiers, and the tribulation brought on by 41 years of abortion's tyranny has only made them strong.

After the Liturgy on Tuesday, our group waited in the cold almost another two hours just to join in with the official March. One 15-yr-old girl from Alabama, Victoria Antonello of Church of the Reconciler, spoke later of what that experience meant for her:

"Despite the cold, I'm glad I stood out there waiting for the March for that long. I felt like I was making a difference as an advocate for life. Coming back, I feel so strengthened and more passionate about pro-life work. I can't wait until I can start doing more to expand the movement here in Alabama, and keep fighting to end abortion."

Victoria's brother, Dominick, also attended the March. He adds:

"The March for Life was amazing to me. I felt as if I was truly contributing to the pro-life movement by being there, and by standing strong in the freezing cold weather, and seeing everyone else doing it, I have truly seen that this is a war worth fighting and winning in the end."

The March for Life is so much more than a public demonstration; it's a springboard for young people like Dominick and Victoria. Youth from all over the nation come to D.C. and see thousands upon thousands of people — mostly their age — standing for life. Suddenly, they aren't alone. They have comrades, battle buddies. They are given resources. They meet pro-life leaders. They stand in the freezing cold and leave thinking, "I was there for one of the coldest marches on the books, and I made it through!"

Then, most important of all, they go back home, carrying a new banner in their hearts and thirsting to change their city. That's why we march, even when it's freezing. We know the worth of being together and the momentum it brings to us all in helping carry the fight through 2014.

Aidan Nelson of Holy Trinity CEC in Pennsylvania experienced this very thing just one day after returning from the March. She says:

"I realized just how much is going on in the fight for Life, and I was excited to be a part of it all. I also discovered that small displays of pro-life activism can have results. Some of my friends at school saw our Die-In on the internet and were blown away that I was a part of the news story. God uses us to make a difference."

With courageous young people like Aidan, Victoria and Dominick, and Caleb running toward the front line, we know abortion doesn't stand a chance. This is the generation that WILL — no matter the cost, no matter the complication. And abortion advocates? They are the generation that haven't and won't. They haven't learned anything about their "enemy" (these young people are brilliant), and they won't sacrifice a single thing to win their so-called war. That's a perfect plan for losing.

May God continue to foil the plans of the true enemy, Satan, and to give favor to this generation as they c

ome into their own, and take on the fight for a prevailing culture of LIFE.
Ready to join us?  Mark your calendars now for January 22nd, 2015!
Plan to be part of the movement…

41 Years of Roe… Looking Forward With Hope

As we commemorate the 41st year of Roe v. Wade through marching, praying and witnessing for life, many do so with heavy hearts. Working to change hearts and save lives everyday is tough-we see a lot, don't we?
As sidewalk counselors, we see young women enter abortion centers almost everyday.
On campus, more and more young people settle into a callous disregard for the child in the womb.
Far too many pro-life groups fail to raise their meager budget.
And around the globe, more abortions happen every year than we can even fathom.

Sometimes it's just overwhelming, but here at HLA we see many signs of hope. I thought you might need a shot in the arm today, so here's a few testimonies from the past year:

I was outside a women's health center and handed a publication to a couple going in. They stopped under a tree and read it. Later, they walked out and the man waved the publication to me and said, "You saved a Life today."-Sidewalk Counselor

I've counseled for 33 years and have made over 750 saves in the last 8 years using HLA publications. -Sidewalk Counselor & Pregnancy Resource Center Volunteer

Most of these publications are distributed through teen abstinence programs and public schools. We find, time after time, that students do read the publication. They are drawn into the magazine through the trendy look and then are able to understand the simple message of the stories. -Teen Abstinence Speaker

Thank you so much for all the work you do. It's invaluable. I work on an HBCU [Historically Black College and University] campus. I can tell you that the truth you spread is rarely here. So thanks for your publications, your volunteers, and the work you continue to do. It's not in vain. -Faculty

I have seen a bunch of that information, but the whole presentation was just awesome. I gave the copy that I had to a student who is really busy advocating and campaigning for the election we have on Tuesday (truth is she liked it so much that I couldn't take it back from her :D). I must admit that I had lost a lot of hope on the subject, but this push is really awesome… -Student

…As a post abortive woman, who has never stopped grieving for what I did 25 years ago, I found your brochure to be so powerful, informative, and important in the efforts to re-educate the public with the truth! I had been searching and suffering for all these years until I realized that my only consolation was with the Lord… Much of the information you have contained in your brochure, I had already learned, but there is much that I did not know! I agree that these brochures should be everywhere! God Bless You for this "gift" of information and in all your efforts! -Anonymous

Wow! These are just a few of the comments and thank you's we received. I thought you just might want to know that your support of HLA's pro-life efforts really makes a difference.

Thank you for your tireless dedication to saving children in the womb.

"Let's Make This a Year of Action!"

Let's be clear – I do NOT endorse, support, or agree with President Obama or his anti-life agenda.  However, he did say one thing during Tuesday's State of the Union Address that I liked: "let's make this a year of action!"

Just last week, hundreds of thousands of young people demonstrated their pro-life convictions at the March for Life and Walk for Life.  The Survivors team and I traveled to over a dozen events, where our generation remembered the silent victims of abortion with passion and zeal.

Now that everyone is home from the walks and marches, it is time to get to work!  Here are 4 things that you can do to take action this month:

1.) Join Survivors Campus Outreach – The Survivors Campus Outreach Team needs 1 more man and 1 more lady to join us for a semester of constant action to defend preborn babies and proclaim the Gospel of Life.  Email [email protected] or apply here. Team members can begin immediately, and commit from two weeks to a full semester, ending July 4th.

2.) Join the CookieCott! – In the last couple of years, Girl Scouts of America has used Planned Parenthood's graphic material to teach sex-ed, as well as unapologetically support anti-life activists like Gloria Steinem, Betty Friedan, Wendy Davis, and Kathleen Sebelius. Starting TODAY, we will not support their agenda to exploit young girls. We are boycotting Girl Scout cookies. Join the CookieCott now — http://cookiecott.com/

3.) Participate in National Pro-Life Chalk Day – The Survivors team uses chalk to share the pro-life message in front of abortion mills every week.  It never fails to amaze (or amuse!) us when abortion workers get offended by our child-like drawings.  Join us and the rest of the nation on February 6, 2014 — www.nationalprolifechalkday.com

4.) Use this new online pro-life tool! Visit www.IMarchedforlife.com and sign up to receive a free virtual activism kit, advertise your local pro-life events on a United States map, or search and find other events happening near you.

Teen Who Lost His Legs in Botched Abortion Makes State Wrestling Championships

Nik Hoot is quite the athlete. He’s a successful wrestler at a high school – a fact that would likely earn him news coverage anyway. But Nik has overcome the kind of obstacles very few encounter.

You see, Nik is a well-rounded athlete in spite of the fact that he is missing parts of both legs and doesn’t have a fully developed set of fingers. The Indiana teenager lives with these disabilities because his biological parents – an unknown couple from Russia – attempted to abort Nik. http://www.lifenews.com/2014/02/18/teen-who-lost-his-legs-in-botched-abortion-made-it-to-state-wrestling-championships/

She Was Conceived in Incest, Should She Have Been Killed in Abortion?

On a hot summer day in June of 2008 Kristi Hofferber decided it was time to talk to her adoptive parents about getting information about her birth parents. Kristi never felt the need to step back into her past, and always felt unsettled about it. But on this hot day in June 2008 she decided to go back in time and what she found out about her birth parents has become the biggest shock of her life.

Kristi was adopted at birth into a loving home and was raised in the Lutheran church. She grew up knowing she was adopted and was the only child for this young married couple out of Illinois. She was never sure why her birthmother placed her up for adoption and was never sure if she ever really wanted to know the reason why.

More Abortion Workers Are Leaving the Industry

Former Planned Parenthood director Abby Johnson has reported increasing success through 'And Then There Were None' [www.attwn.org], which helps abortion workers leave. Abby reports that at least 90 abortion workers have come through ATTWN since the organization was established late 2011. Abby and the ATTWN staff had projected a hoped-for number of 12 rescued workers as a signal of true success.

Healthy Baby Born From Brain-Dead Mother Confirms Hospital Dilemma

[Comment: How ironic that this article comes out the day after the Texas unborn baby dies. Some mainstream media articles on that case stated that since the Texas mom was only 14-15 weeks along when she suffered an embolism, the baby had no chance of being born "normal". Note that this healthy baby came from a mom who was 15 weeks along when she was said to be brain dead.
Another recent media article said that healthy babies born from mothers said to be brain dead were very rare and cited a British Medical Journal article. The problem is that very few actual cases make it into medical journal articles and not just cases where a baby is born alive from a mom considered brain dead.
For example, take Zach Dunlap. He had every test for brain death including a blood flow test. The doctors were absolutely certain he had no brain function. Yet, shortly before his organs were to be harvested, someone tested his foot reflexes and he moved. He ultimately had a complete recovery. However, his case was covered as just a human interest story in the media. What a waste of a golden opportunity to learn more if Zach's doctors or others wrote a medical journal article on his case!  N. Valko RN]

Healthy Baby Born From Brain-Dead Mother Confirms Hospital Dilemma

A baby has been delivered by Cesarean section at 27 weeks, after the brain-dead mother was held alive on a ventilator. The baby was only 15-weeks-old when its mother suffered a stroke and was declared brain-dead. The child’s 31-year-old mother was removed from life support just two days after the child was born. Texas hospital hopes for a chance at the same miracle.

Doctors fought to keep the child alive after the mother’s brain stop functioning. The baby was delivered in July and the Hungarian doctors who helped the child make its transition from the womb believe there are only two other cases like this in the world.

After the mother had the stroke she was rushed to the hospital and operated on immediately but was declared brain-dead. Through an ultrasound doctors were able to see that the fetus was still moving and chose to keep the mother on life support.

President of the University of Debrecen Medical and Health Science Center, Dr. Bela Fulesdi, said they struggled to save the mother’s life but it was proven that functions and circulations had ceased. On the second day as examinations were being performed for other reasons the doctors saw that the baby was alive and kicking inside the mother’s womb.

The family has not released the sex or identity of the child and has requested privacy, but during the pregnancy the father and grandmothers visited the hospital regularly to talk to the unborn child and rub the mother’s stomach. They also used a music therapist to help stimulate the fetus. Doctors would turn the woman over to avoid bedsores and had to fight multiple infections throughout her last days.

The goal was to keep the baby inside the womb for as long as possible, but the mother’s circulation became unstable during the child’s 27th week. Doctor’s then determined that the womb was no longer a safe place for the baby and decided to deliver the premature baby.

Dr. Scilla Molnar, head of the Anesthesiology and Intensive Care Department, said they did not just want to deliver the baby; their aim was to deliver a healthy child. Molnar, along with a select number of doctors, was in the delivery room while the family waited in the operating waiting room.

Molnar said when the baby was born it immediately starting crying and kicking. She said it was a fantastic and unforgettable moment for everyone who took part in the treatment. The child was born weighing about three pounds and initially needed respiratory support. This did not worry the doctors; they were pretty confident the child would survive.

The baby was born in July 2013 and was discharged from the hospital in December 2013. Doctors did not want to announce the delivery until they were certain the child would survive. The baby is home doing well and doctors say there are no signs of any illnesses related to premature births.

Dr. Fulesdi said what makes this case so special is not only did they help the baby survive under the circumstances of a brain-dead mother but they also were able to preserve five of the mother’s organs so they could be donated. The woman’s two kidneys, liver, heart and pancreas were donated to four different patients.

This story lends credence to the Texas hospital that has refused to remove Marlise Munoz from life support. Hospital officials contend that they are bound by the Texas Advance Directives Act, but on Friday a judge gave the Fort Worth hospital until Monday at 5 p.m. CST to remove life support.

Munoz was 14 weeks into her pregnancy when Erick, her husband, found her in the middle of the night lying in the kitchen floor unconscious. Munoz was taken to John Peter Smith Hospital where
the 33-year-old woman was pronounced brain-dead.

This unfortunate turn of events occurred on November 26, 2013 and against the family’s wishes the hospital has kept Munoz breathing on life support. The hospital is hoping for the opportunity to deliver a healthy baby as did the doctors at The University of Debrecen Medical and Health Science Center.

Hospital executives at John Peter Smith have not determined what their next step will be following the judge’s ruling. If they remove Munoz from the machine that’s keeping her breathing her unborn child will also die.

A baby of a brain-dead mother has been delivered by Cesarean section at 27 weeks. Doctors will continue to monitor the child’s progress but they are happy to report that the baby is now home and doing well. The child’s mother was removed from life support just two days after the child was born. Texas hospital wants the unborn Munoz baby to have the same opportunity.

The Amazing Story of Baby #1100

Online for Life [OFL] connected with the birth mother (“Ann”) online, and we directed her to a local pregnancy resource center (PRC). During her appointment, Ann discussed her options with the caring staff, received life-affirming guidance from a counselor, and saw an ultrasound image of her baby. Yet when Ann left the PRC that day, she was still determined to have an abortion.

We all thought this case was hopeless…

After months of unanswered phone calls—and countless prayers—the PRC staff tried one more time to reach Ann. This time she picked up the phone, and she shared that her baby had been born just days earlier. After thinking about what the supportive staff at the PRC had told her, she said she just couldn’t abort her baby.

Oftentimes women leave their PRC appointments still feeling undecided about their pregnancies. And some women, like Ann, feel just as determined to get an abortion as they did when they first arrived.

That’s why the OFL Call Center and the participating PRCs are committed to follow up with women after their appointments—to remind them that people [care] for them, and Online for Life and participating PRCs are there for them if they need help. To extend our support to these parents beyond the birth of their children, many PRC offers financial assistance and planning classes to birth mothers.

Knowing that not every outcome will be a positive one like Ann’s, post-abortive care is also made available to mothers who do not choose LIFE.

When a woman chooses LIFE for her child, you can be notified via an app to share the good news with your friends and family . . . an announcement that will excite others and encourage them to join you in this real time experience!

The Online for Life App presents an incredible opportunity to engage in the day-to-day mission to save unborn babies and their families from the devastating effects of abortion.

CNN Crossfire Forced to Focus on What is At Stake with Abortion

We weren't kidding when we said 2014 will be a big year for the pro-life movement.  We're not even through January, and Live Action is already making the media focus on the most pressing human rights abuse of our day.

On Wednesday, Lila Rose, our president, debated the head of NARAL on CNN's Crossfire.  In a media climate that rarely allows more than a sound bite on the human life issue, this week's dynamite half-hour debate gave Americans the chance to really analyze the stakes when millions of pre-born children are legally killed in our country.  The media on both sides have caught fire over Lila's powerful statements defending all people – no matter their size, their race, or the circumstances surrounding their conception.

Watch the CNN Crossfire video by clicking on the image below:   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WdPIgsGmDcU
[Ed. be prepared to be aggravated by the liberal speakers…]

In addition to independently reporting our own stories on Live Action News and our major social media platforms, Live Action has made numerous television and radio appearances this past week, including TheBlazeTV, The Lars Larson Show, CBN, and EWTN Nightly News.  The Washington Post, an opinion leader both on Capitol Hill and throughout the nation, profiled Lila and the pro-life message for millions to see in their prominent Style Section. USA Today ran an oped co-authored by Lila calling strongly on the Republican Party to stick to its civil rights-supporting roots and stand unapologetically for our weakest brothers and sisters in the womb.  Check out these articles and others by clicking here.

Abortion is the greatest human rights abuse of our day.  We will see it end only if we are willing to act.  We at Live Action will keep bringing the truth into the mainstream newsrooms.  Don't stop taking the truth to everyone around you.  Every word in pursuit of what's right makes a difference!

The Truth About Abortion and the African American Church

In honor of National Black History Month, the Reverend Dean Nelson joins me on the Online for Life Podcast to discuss the crisis of abortion in urban communities, and its tragic impact on the African-American church.

Did you know that more than 30 percent of abortions in America take place within the African-American community? It’s time to bring this epidemic to the forefront. Don’t miss this incredibly thought-provoking and honest discussion about race, abortion, and civil rights in America.

As a pastor, grassroots activist, and the co-founder and vice chairman of the Frederick Douglass Foundation (a national Christ-centered education and public policy organization), Reverend Nelson is uniquely qualified to offer an insider’s look at abortion’s impact on the urban community, drawing heavily on his knowledge of slavery and the civil rights struggle.

From Premature Baby to Pro-Life Warrior

Marquita Southall was born in Mobile, Alabama, to a 19-year-old single mom, who delivered in her fifth month of pregnancy. Born at just a one pound and three ounces, Marquita stayed in the hospital for three months. The doctors weren’t certain she would live. Marquita fought for her life and survived.

When Marquita was 13, a friend’s mother took her to church. One day, at a youth service, she answered an altar call and gave her heart to Jesus Christ. Marquita remembers feeling a battle in her soul over that decision. Once the choice was made, she felt that burdens had been lifted off her. After her encounter, she got up in front of her class and told them she had given her life to God.

Years later, Marquita participated in a prayer gathering named ‘The Call Alabama.” During the Call, she heard about the pro-life movement Bound4Life. She got one of their red “Life” bands to remind her to pray daily for the ending of abortion.

In high school, one of Marquita’s classmates had an abortion at 5 months. Marquita believed that her friend’s abortion was wrong, but she didn’t know much about the issue. On 11-11-11, Marquita was captivated while watching a prayer meeting taking place in Detroit, Michigan. The “Call Detroit” prayer meeting in Ford Field was a 24-hour gathering, attended by thousands who focused on praying for the ending of abortion and for the black community.

Through these prayer gatherings, Marquita began to believe that God was speaking to her about the issue of abortion. During the Call Detroit, she was stirred in her heart while watching an African-American woman named Summer talk about her painful late-term abortion. After hearing her story, Marquita couldn’t stop thinking about the unborn. “God wouldn’t let me sleep; all I could think about was abortion,” she shared in our interview.

m1She joined Bound 4 Life and became a chapter leader. Along with that, she began doing research on the history of abortion. She discovered abortion’s link to eugenics and the devastating impact abortion has had on the black community over the years. Marquita began to stand in front of the Planned Parenthood in Mobile, Alabama and pray. She held “silent sieges,” prayer meetings in which the participants cover their mouths with red tape to identify with the unborn who are silent in the womb.

The first silent siege at her local Planned Parenthood had 12 people. Marquita remembers feeling a heavy weight, knowing what was taking place in the abortion facility. The people praying saw black crows flying around and sensed a spirit of death. Everyone involved in that first siege had the feeling that abortion had to be stopped. That Planned Parenthood is exactly across the street from a Chuck E Cheese. As her friends watched women go in to destroy their children, they heard kids crying and praying in the background.

Marquita began to visit local churches, asking others to join her in praying for an end to abortion. She was opposed by some who thought her stand against abortion was wrong. “God told me to shut my ears, don’t listen to the naysayers,” she said. The rejection hurt, but Marquita refused to quit, even when the opposition caused fewer people to come pray with her at the clinic.

Marquita decided she was in the fight for the long haul. “God showed me that I was saved as a premature baby so I can be a voice. If I stop being a voice, they lose their voice, and I lose mine, because this is my purpose.” She carried on and became a licensed minister because of her work with Bound 4 Life.

She organized a dance event for the pro-life cause at the Battleship Memorial Parkway in Alabama. It was a powerful event, with artists, singers, and dancers performing to remember the lives lost through abortion. It was chosen to be at a battlefield to honor the millions of children lost in the abortion war.

This Saturday, January 11, Marquita is organizing another prayer event at the Planned Parenthood in Mobile, Alabama. On the event’s Facebook page she shares this message:

For too long, the church has been silent on “social issues” such as abortion. God’s word clearly states that he HATES the shedding of innocent blood. As lovers of Jesus Christ, we are to hate what He hates, and love what He loves. I pray that God will awaken your heart to see the truth behind this holocaust, and lead you to pray with us until we see this atrocity end. Join us as we lay siege against abortion, and set our faces before God in prayer.

If you’re in Mobile, please join Marquita as she prays for lives to be saved. Although I can’t attend the silent siege, my heart is grateful to know that passionate young women like Marquita are taking a stand against the death decree in our nation.

19 Beautiful Reminders Why Americans March for Life on January 22

Today, tens of thousands of people from around the country will gather in Washington to brave the cold for a cause they believe in. Some are marching for the first time, and others have been traveling to the nation’s capital since the Roe v. Wade decision in 1973. For the 41st year, they’ll meet again for the same reason — the sanctity of life.

We’re also celebrating life today, and we hope you will, too. Here are 19 moving reminders of the beauty of new life:

Organization ‘Women Speak for Themselves’ Proves Many Women Disagree with Mandated Contraception

The organization Women Speak for Themselves (WSFT) was recently established to acknowledge the many women whose views on contraception and the HHS mandate are not represented by so-called women’s rights groups.

In an open letter to congress (specifically to President Obama and Secretary Sebelius), WSFT outlined the concerns shared by large numbers of American women about the nature of the HHS mandate and about the fact that progressive organizations have been erroneously claiming to speak for all women in their approval of the legislation.

The letter is straightforward and to the point. It acknowledges that the voices being represented are those in line with Catholic teaching on matters of sexuality, but affirms that there are many non-Catholic women who stand with the Church as representatives of their own thoughts in this regard. These women feel slighted by the notion that potentially abortifacient drugs with a high propensity to cause physical detriment to women’s bodies are being touted as a boon to women’s freedom. The letter, penned by Helen M. Alvare, J.D. and Kim Daniels, J.D., reads:

We are women who support the competing voice offered by Catholic institutions on matters of sex, marriage and family life. Most of us are Catholic, but some are not. We are Democrats

, Republicans and Independents. Many, at some point in our careers, have worked for a Catholic institution. We are proud to have been part of the religious mission of that school, or hospital, or social service organization. We are proud to have been associated not only with the work Catholic institutions perform in the community – particularly for the most vulnerable — but also with the shared sense of purpose found among colleagues who chose their job because, in a religious institution, a job is always also a vocation.

Those currently invoking “women’s health” in an attempt to shout down anyone who disagrees with forcing religious institutions or individuals to violate deeply held beliefs are more than a little mistaken, and more than a little dishonest. Even setting aside their simplistic equation of “costless” birth control with “equality,” note that they have never responded to the large body of scholarly research indicating that many forms of contraception have serious side effects, or that some forms act at some times to destroy embryos, or that government contraceptive programs inevitably change the sex, dating and marriage markets in ways that lead to more empty sex, more non-marital births and more abortions. It is women who suffer disproportionately when these things happen.

No one speaks for all women on these issues. Those who purport to do so are simply attempting to deflect attention from the serious religious liberty issues currently at stake. Each of us, Catholic or not, is proud to stand with the Catholic Church and its rich, life-affirming teachings on sex, marriage and family life. We call on President Obama and our Representatives in Congress to allow religious institutions and individuals to continue to witness to their faiths in all their fullness.

The group has accumulated well over 40,000 signatures. The organization provides fact sheets on religious freedom, the HHS mandate, and risk compensation, and maintains a blog to showcase the voices of women who do not feel benefited by the HHS mandate – and who in many ways feel that it is a blow to true womanhood. FBI Announced that 16 Children (total 50+) Rescued from Sexual Exploitation in Super Bowl Sting

It’s the ugly side of the Super Bowl – the reality that America’s most popular sporting event is also likely America’s biggest day for sexual slavery. The day that sells the most tickets and the most coveted ad spaces is also the day that results in the most sales of little girls and women, at prices inflated to match the expense of the event.

In a cruel outplay  of the economic reality of “supply and demand,” it is not only local pimps who make a big profit – women and girls from all over the country are often brought in to the destination city to ensure that travelers for the big game have enough “side entertainment” available.

QuickStats: Infant Mortality Rates,* by Race and Hispanic Ethnicity of Mother — United States, 2000, 2005, and 2010

The U.S. infant mortality rate plateaued during 2000–2005, then declined from 6.86 infant deaths per 1,000 live births in 2005 to 6.14 in 2010. Declines from 2005 to 2010 were largest for non-Hispanic black women (from 13.63 to 11.46), followed by non-Hispanic white (from 5.76 to 5.18) and Hispanic women (from 5.62 to 5.25). In 2000 and 2005, the non-Hispanic black infant mortality rates were 2.4 times the non-Hispanic white rates; however, the difference between the two rates has narrowed, and in 2010, the non-Hispanic black rate was 2.2 times the non-Hispanic white rate.
