They told Congress that they represent the real voices of women on the issues of abortion and stem cell research.
The “Real Women’s Voices” lobbying day brought nearly 300 women to DC, and another 1,200 women signed up online to participate in spirit. Representatives of groups like the National Right to Life Committee and the Susan B. Anthony List gave the women a brief overview of lobbying strategy.
Then, they were off to members of the House & Senate to persuade them to vote pro-life on the issue of parental notification and filibusters against judicial nominees.
“Mainstream media usually does not air the voices of these women even though they are the voices of women across the United States,” Dr. Pia de Solenni of FRC Action said of the women attending the event: “Millions of women voted in the last election and made it clear that values matter to them. Now they’re coming to Washington to make sure that their voices are heard on issues that affect their lives and the lives of the generations to follow.”
The women also heard presentations from leading pro-life lawmakers, including Rep. Sue Myrick (R-NC), Rep. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN), and Sen. Sam Brownback (R-KS).
Speakers also included Dr. Alveda C. King [founder, King for America]; Helen Alvare [Assoc Prof, CU]; Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen; Singer-songwriter, Kara Klein; and Rachel Campos-Duffy of Real Word: San Francisco.
Other sponsoring organizations include the Silent No More Awareness Campaign, Concerned Women for America, Eagle Forum and Family Research Council Action.
