Why do They Call Planned Parenthood a Non-Profit?

During its 2005-2006 fiscal year, the non-profit Planned Parenthood Federation of America performed a record 264,943 abortions, attained a huge profit of $55.8 million and received record taxpayer funding of $305.3 million. (, 6/15/07)  For the year July 1, 2005, through June 30, 2006, Planned Parenthood received $345.1 million in clinic income, $305 million in taxpayer funding and $212.2 million in donations.  Total income reached $902.8 million while total expenses came to $847.0 million, leaving a profit of $55.8 million. [EF, News & Notes, 31Aug07]

According to the final data released by Planned Parenthood, it admits to committing 264,943 abortions in fiscal year 2005-2006—the most babies it has ever killed in a single year, and Planned Parenthood’s total income for the year was $902.8 million — including taxpayer funds totaling $305.3 million — with a $55.8 million profit for the year.

Adding this new death toll to those previously reported by Planned Parenthood, the organization now admits to the deaths of 4,068,749 babies in the womb since July 2, 1970—the day Planned Parenthood opened the first free-standing abortion facility in the country and did its first abortions.

Although it took Planned Parenthood 35 years to kill its first four million babies in the United States, at its current rate of doing abortion, it could kill another four million in less than 15 years. Currently the organization has devolved into an efficient killing machine, one that survives because elected officials and private citizens allow it to exist. It is time that we all took every peaceful and lawful action we can to shut down these purveyors of death.

Planned Parenthood’s educational activities

Planned Parenthood’s data clearly shows its emphasis on young people. Among the educational highlights it chose to list are:

Nearly 2,200 affiliate staff and volunteer educators provided educational programs to 1.3 million people of all ages—from preschools to universities, from prisons and social service programs to religious institutions and civic organizations (emphasis added).

Numerous training programs were provided to more than 73,000 professionals who work with children, teens, and young adults.
3,000 teen advocates, peer educators, and teen theater performers carry Planned Parenthood's prevention messages to their communities
Planned Parenthood’s birth control sales
The following is a list of the types of birth control Planned Parenthood sells and how many of each type:

1,072,653 doses of oral contraception

261,969 more doses of "em

ergency contraception”
41% EC sales for unduplicated clients compared to 33% last year (27% and 23% the previous years) so the number of PP customers who just buy EC from the organization continues to rise
33% of total contraceptive sales was EC last year whereas it was 29% the year before
52,319 more doses of female contraceptives than the previous year
82,562 fewer breast cancer screenings than the previous year
5,062 fewer instances of prenatal care given
32,925 fewer pregnancy tests
35% fewer infertility clients
7,630 fewer primary care clients
A ray of hope

It is very difficult to find anything positive in a report that admits to the deaths of more than 264,000 babies in a single year. However, there is something buried in all the numbers and verbiage that gives a ray of hope.

It appears that Planned Parenthood is beginning to lose its hold on young people.

In this report, Planned Parenthood says that teenagers receive 25% of its services. In previous reports, Planned Parenthood has claimed that number to be as high as 26.7%. This drop in percentage may be because Planned Parenthood is putting a tremendous emphasis on so-called Emergency Contraception or it may represent a drop in youth clients. We will continue to watch this development.

In an even more telling trend, Planned Parenthood reported 600,000 visits per month to its teen web site in 2005. In 2004, it reported 800,000 visits per month. This, again, is a trend that offers some hope for the future. [2May2007, Wednesday STOPP Report]

PLANNED PARENTHOOD REPORT SHOWS RECORD NUMBER OF ABORTIONS DONE. A preview of the latest annual report from the Planned Parenthood Federation of America shows that the nation's largest abortion business is doing more abortions than ever before.

The report indicates PPFA affiliates across the country did 264,943 abortions in 2005 alone, (264,943 abortions in 2005 works out to 5,095 abortions every week) an increase of 3.9 percent over 2004.

The abortion business also said it sold 1,245,506 "emergency" birth control kits in 2005, which is an increase of 26.6 percent more than in 2004 and every Planned Parenthood sells birth control as well.

Douglas Scott, the head of Life Decisions International, a group that monitors corporations that donate to Planned Parenthood, said he found it hypocritical that the abortion business claims birth control and the Plan B drug reduces the number of abortions while doing more abortions than at any point in its history.

"Planned Parenthood claims to prevent the 'need' for abortion while simultaneously working to increase its share of the lucrative abortion market," he told in a statement. PPFA is expected to release its 2005-2006 Annual Report within the next few months.

"One can be sure that in addition to killing more human beings that ever before, Planned Parenthood will have taken in more money than ever before," Scott said.

He pointed out that the nonprofit's incoming is rapidly approaching the $1 billion mark and that it generated an estimated $100 million from doing abortions in 2005. [7May07, DC,]

U.S. Planned Parenthood Reports Record Profit, Record Amount of Taxpayer Funding
Received taxpayer funds totaling $305.3 million — $32.6 million (12 percent) more than last year

On June 6 Planned Parenthood (PP) released its official 2005-2006 annual report. The report details the activities and financial situation of the organization at length.

During the year of 2005-06, besides reporting that 264,943 children were killed by medical and surgical abortions performed by its clinics, it also reported a record income, including a record amount of taxpayer funding. Planned Parenthood’s total income for the year was $902.8 million, with a $55.8 million profit.

Jim Sedlak, who is the is executive director of STOPP International, a project of American Life League, as well as vice-president of American Life League, analyzed and commented on the data presented in the 2005-06 report.

“Once again, Planned Parenthood took in much more money than it needed,” writes Sedlak. “It reported ‘excess of revenue of expenses’ of $55.8 million for the fiscal year. This marks the 34th year in a row that Planned Parenthood has reported ‘excess revenue’ — otherwise known as profit. Over the years, Planned Parenthood has reported total profits of over $700 million. It has amassed a treasure chest of assets worth $839.8 million.”

Sedlak points out that Planned Parenthood’s income comes from three sources: “fees charged at its clinics; donations from corporations, foundations and individuals; and taxpayer money received from government grants and contracts.”

However, according to the 2005-06 report, both income from the foundation’s clinics, as well as donations from corporations are down from the previous year. Clinic income, estimates Sedlak, was down about $1.5 million from the previous year, whereas donations were down $3.6 million.

And yet, points out Sedlak, Planned Parenthood still reported a record level profit.

“The final category of Planned Parenthood revenue sources is you and me — the American taxpayer,” Sedlak continues. “I am sorry to report to you that Planned Parenthood reported receiving taxpayer funds totaling $305.3 million — a whopping $32.6 million (12 percent) more than last year. This means that taxpayer money now accounts for 34 percent of Planned Parenthood's income.”

“The bottom line is that Planned Parenthood is losing donations, its clinic income is down and you and I are being forced to pay more so the organization can kill our children through abortion and spread its perverted ideology throughout the land…Something is wrong here.”

Planned Parenthood, however, is not satisfied with the $305.3 million in taxpayer money that it received during the 2005-06 year, but is currently seeking more government/taxpayer funding.

“As I write this, Planned Parenthood in California is fighting for increased Medi-Cal reimbursement rates so it can get more taxpayer money for every customer it see

s. Never mind that its nine affiliates in California have received over $270 million in taxpayer money since 1998 and have total profits of over $83 million during that time.”

“This year's annual report makes it clear. Average citizens are spending less and less at Planned Parenthood clinics. Wealthy citizens are not giving Planned Parenthood as much in donations as they have in the past. Only our government officials are giving more to Planned Parenthood and they are giving it our money.”

He concludes his analysis of the annual report by exhorting citizens to complain to their elected officials in order to stop taxpayer funding for Planned Parenthood, saying, “It is time we all said NO to Planned Parenthood.”
