Through Laura’s Eyes: Abortion’s False Promise of Empowerment

For decades, legalized abortion has been slickly marketed, or “packaged,” by the feminist movement and the abortion industry as “empowerment” for women. Ironically, the very movement that claims to champion equality for women views women as inherently incomplete. This, they argue, can only be accomplished by granting mothers the “power” to impose lethal force against their unborn children. The International Planned Parenthood Federation states, on its website, “Denying women the ability to choose to end an unwanted pregnancy under safe and legal conditions is a violation of human rights and flies in the face of the empowerment agenda.” As Jeffrey Ventrella of Alliance Defending Freedom wisely stated, “When the most dangerous place for a young person today is in his mother’s womb, that is a work of the devil.” Indeed, and when it comes to abortion’s false promise of empowering women, the devil is in the details. After speaking at a church recently, I was approached by a woman who shared her heartbreaking story with me. I pass this on to you with her permission, though I’ve changed her name. “Laura’s” childhood innocence was stolen by a string of her mother’s boyfriends who repeatedly molested and raped her. Her own mother turned a blind eye to Laura’s abuse, and in 1977, at only 12 years of age, Laura became pregnant. Realizing the legal consequences and the relational upheaval this could cause, her mother panicked. And so, five months into Laura’s pregnancy, she put her daughter in the car and drove her to a Planned Parenthood abortion clinic. Laura had no idea where she was going or what was about...

UN Passes ‘Unprecedented’ Pro-Family Resolution, Outraging Sexual Radicals

A pro-family resolution has been passed by the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva of “unprecedented” force and reach, thanks to a coalition of African and other developing countries, China and Russia and a support group of socially conservative NGOs. “This is unprecedented, a tremendous victory for the family,” Sharon Slater, the head of Family Watch International (FWI), told LifeSiteNews. “It is the first time ever in the history of the United Nations that a comprehensive resolution has been passed calling for the protection of the family as a fundamental unit of society, recognizing the prior right of parents to educate their children, and calling on all nations to create family-sensitive policies and recognize their binding obligations under treaty to protect the family.” The voting on the “Protection of the Family” resolution was 27 for – 14 against, Slater noted. Those opposing the motion included the United States, the United Kingdom, Ireland and other Western European countries. Its sponsors included Russia, China, Belarus, and more than a dozen Muslim and African countries. The four abstaining members of the council—Brazil, Mexico, Argentina and Macedonia—probably were forced to do so by the rich countries opposing the bill. “The developed countries probably put huge pressure on the others to stop the bill or insert amendments undermining its intent by threatening to withhold foreign aid,” said Slater. “We applaud those who were able to stand up for the family, and we ask people to write to them to thank them.” (FWI provides a webpage to help people send these supportive letters.) Austin Ruse of the Center for Family and Human Rights (C-FAM),...

Two Key Questions Every Pro-Life Person Must Answer

Every day, my assistant gathers articles from pro-abortion sources, so I can keep tabs on the worldview, thinking, and strategy of the pro-abortion movement. I’ll be candid: reading these articles is not my favorite part of the day. Here are a few recent examples she sent to me. There was an article about a movement to place Margaret Sanger’s face on the $20 bill. Sanger, the founder of Planned Parenthood, was an overt racist and sterilization advocate. ThinkProgress is constantly pushing so-called “reproductive rights,” and this piece bemoaned the fact that America is not keeping up with the world in championing abortion freedoms: “While we do have a federal constitutional right [to abortion], states are taking aim at that in different ways and really trying to chip away at that right in a piecemeal fashion,” Amanda Allen, the state legislative counsel at the Center for Reproductive Rights, told ThinkProgress. She described the political activity since the 2010 elections as “a sustained assault on reproductive rights.” Lies, myths, and more lies. The “sustained assault on reproductive rights” is an inherently discriminatory dogma, considering that the pro-abortion movement wants to protect the contrived reproductive right to abort for only a certain class of females—those who are born. In other words, Allen and her pro-abortion allies are fine with killing millions of females whom they deem unworthy of any rights, all in the name of protecting women’s rights. It’s convoluted and deceitful. Pro-abortion movement only protects women who have been born. However, the articles that bother me the most are those featuring people of faith or church leaders who promote the mass...

September 2005: Birth Control

CANADA APPROVES MAP/ EC OTC – formalizing an order making the MAP/EC available in pharmacies over-the-counter and without a prescription. The document itself states that so-called emergency contraception “prevents the fertilized egg [sic] from attaching to the wall of the uterus”. [Rt to Life of Greater Cincinnati, 8/05] ARGENTINA & MAP – Argentina has only 39.5 million people, with a fertility rate of 2.19 children per family – ZPG. The current national gov’t promotes “reproductive health” aggressively. The introduction of the MAP/EC sparked court battles which the pro-life side won; 2 companies, representing 90% of the market of MAP, have since stopped producing MAP. This has affected neighboring countries as well [Argentina is a major pharmaceutical producer/exporter]. The most dramatic pro-life victory came when federal judge Cristina Garzon de Lascano in Cordoba ruled in 2003 that all abortifacient birth control methods violated Argentina’s constitution and must be banned from the country. Like the US federal ban on Partial-Birth Abortion, however, this excellent pro-life measure has been challenged in the courts and is still being appealed. The ministry of health in Argentina is actively opposing the ruling. If You Know Someone Considering Abortion…

Each year, many American women are seriously injured at abortion centers. Women have THE RIGHT TO KNOW the quality of care they can expect before receiving any medical treatment or procedure. If you know someone who is considering an abortion, strongly urge them to get the answers to these questions: 1) Is the abortion center licensed by the State? 2) Is the person performing the abortions a licensed physician with admitting privileges at a local hospital, in case there is a problem? 3) What are the chances of complications from abortion and what type of complications have you had at this abortion center?  [About 10% (1 of 10) of abortion patients experience immediate complications after legal abortion, and about 1 of 500 women experience life-threatening complications.] 4) In the event that there are complications, does the doctor or abortion center carry insurance to cover my medical expenses? 5) Are there malpractice suits pending against this doctor and/or abortion center? 6) If I develop immediate complications, how will you take care of me? 7) What are the alternatives to abortion? You have the RIGHT TO KNOW… To talk with a caring person, or to find the information and resources you need right now, click...
